Site where Audie Murphy, the highly decorated soldier and medal of honor recipient, died at! At 16 years of age he lied about his age to join the US Military during World War 2 and when he was in he was shipped out to war and became the most highly decorated soldier and received The Medal Of Honor, Purple Heart, 2 Silver Stars, 2 Bronze Stars, Legion of Merritt and a Distinguished Service Cross! **** 🚨 Hey ladies and gents! While filming this video I MEANT to say Audie Murphy played in MANY movies, not "couple” of films. It was a slip of my words and later I caught the error after I edited and posted the video. I already knew Audie Murphy been in many films and shows. Also I meant to say he died in 1971 NOT 1972! Sorry of the error, everyone makes mistakes! Again thank you for watching! 🚨****

My sister lived down the street from Audie Murphy's family in Greenville, TX. Audie Murphy was to infantrymen what Rembrandt was to artists. The meteor crater was good. It probably killed some dinosaurs. In the movie "To Hell and Back" he was not acting, just being himself which was more than enough. Genuine heros are hard to come by these days. He was the real thing.

No lie he was definitely a hero and will be missed by many of those who knew about him he should be in the History Books about American History

I just told my teenage granddaughter about Audie Murphy. She lives history. I can't remember what she said that started the conversation. She did mention Jimmy Stewart being a hero. Which I knew. I had tried to get her to watch To Hell And Back last week and she didn't want to watch it. I had order the book and was reading it. I saw the movie when I was a kid with my mom. It was on TV. Anyway I am trying to get her to read his book. Plus The Price Of Valor. Don't know how much she knows about Alvin York. She didn't know Clark Gable had been in the service. Audie is my favorite hero.

Audie Murphy, General Patton, Admiral Nimitz, General McArthur, Chesty Puller were the war dogs of the time! Definitely were heroes! Many actors of the old times were war veterans. Yes Jimmy (James) Stewart was definitely a war veteran! Also James Doohan the original “ Scotty” from Star Trek was a WW2 veteran who served on the invasion of Normandy on D Day!

I watched all his movies. Ironically, they even made a movie of his heroic actions in WWII that got him recognized to receive all the medals he so bravely earned. He was such an amazing and down to earth human being. I sure wish I was able to walk that hike up to the crash site, I would love to pay my respects for such an amazing man.

I grew up watching Audie Murphy films, particularly his westerns, and remember my dad telling me of his war record and being the most decorated hero of WWII. A tragic ending for such a notable man. Thank you for this video on the site of his memorial, which seems like such a lonely place to me but maybe symbolic of him being at rest in peace, as you stated it was so peaceful there. My best to you with your future adventures!

Very good video! Thank you! My husband, a retired CSM US Army, is a member of the SGT Audie Murphy Club. He passed a 'board' as a young NCO and was selected into this highly prestigious club, honoring Audie Murphy 🇺🇸! Ironically, we now live just north from the plane crash. Every time we go to Roanoke, I look at that mountain and think of Audie Murphy! What a hero🇺🇸❤!!

A most interesting presentation of your excursion, a place of which I'll never get the opportunity to visit. My Auntie Gloria was a film/TV actress and worked w/ Murphy on two movies ("Arizona Raiders" being one of them) and also on his "Whispering Smith" western television series (w/ a virtually unknown Robert Redford portraying her younger brother).

I was in the civil air patrol and went to this crash ,when you got to the little sign with the arrow if you turn left and go down the side at a slight right hand angle the actual site is down about 30 yards all of the plane has been carried off I think a engine is still there ,the path you was on past the monument will take you there but it gets very steep you allmost have to crawl back up I went back there in 74 there was some pieces there ,and I went back in 2005 there was nothing you can dig down about 5 inches and find some fragments, its amazing how people carried all that plane out of that steep mountain.

Wow 😮😮! Thank you for sharing your story.. I never knew that about someone of the pieces still remaining and some people carrying it off! Reminds me of what they did at the Patsy Cline crash site I went to last year. I heard in 1963 when the plane crashed people carried off the plane parts of Patsy Cline including her white dress she wore to her last concert. Thank you sir for stopping by!

Yes, that is very sad. My good friend is friends with one of Audie's nieces. The last I heard Audie's youngest sibling is still alive at 92 and goes by her middle name. Audie's great nephew works at an agency in Virginia, so I wonder if he has been to that site. Farmersville, Texas has an Old Time Saturday. In the past it was good but I don't know if it is anymore. Audie Murphy Hero Runs for 5K and 10K used to be held and they may still be. The population keeps increasing around DFW and pushing into the once-small towns, and it is not for the better. I do know more but I don't like to talk for other people.

Crazy how things happen. Fate had his destiny mapped out from day one. He was a heck of a kid, he was a heck of a young man, then an actor. Once again, as fate would have it, James Cagney stepped in, getting him into acting. I liked his movies. Just so strange how once again fate stepped in and took him away from all of us. Thankfully, and unlike today, we have a true hero to remember

I just did a video of the Patsy Cline Crash site like 10 days ago when I went there….if you want to check that post out! Yea it was Randy Hughes Patsy’s manager also the pilot that died, as well as other stars like Cowboy Copas, and Hawkshaw Hawkins that perished in the crash. Way I understand and heard they found the body of Patsy( badly broken below the waist) but the others, were found everywhere .. meaning they found nothing but body parts. Yea it was not a pretty site.

Actually they do have a marker for him. The signs showing the direction of the crash site and memorial should have been maintained better or replaced with a better sign. It was hard to read and worn a little. And yes I agree with you they should keep it up better. In times past people come by and leave presents behind near the marker… but again some of it gets blown around by the wind and tampered with by animals then you have a mess in the woods.

I found the video that told of the coins’ significance. When found on soldiers graves, the penny means the someone visited the grave; the nickel means that the visitor trained at boot camp with the deceased; the dime means the visitor served with the deceased; and the quarter means the visitor was with the soldier when he/she was killed in action.
