Not only is the audio equipment a piece of heaven, being around this brings back memories of when real music was made, and life was worth living. Almost like a _time machine_ ... one I'd wear out, going back over and over. 😍😍

Love Audio Gold. I got my speakers from them and then had to get them on the W7 bus up to the top of Muswell Hill - they are floorstanders too so I got some funny looks. Then had to ask my mum to come and stand with one while I carried the other home and then again for the second one.

Seeing the inside of the Hi-Fi shop reminds me of my attic and my basement because I collect a lot of vintage and antique electronics some of my collection goes back to the 1930s and 1920s. It is nice to see other people who appreciate older vintage electronics like I do. Whether it is high end or lower line they still appreciate it like me. They have a nice collection of HiFi stuff in that shop I hope they keep saving more vintage and antique electronics

For strings get a full range driver with a cardboard dust cap, bend it inwards from 1/3rd way up the dustcap. With a blunt object. Make 2 very thin sticks out of a toothpick that is split up into thin strings of bamboo. Cut them short, 1/8" long. And glue the end of the stick to the center of the pushed in dustcap on the full range driver (pointing upward). Then cut out a tiny piece of foil from coffee can seal foil. The same shape as the Google pointer logo (tear drop shape) and 1/4" x 1/8". Poke a hole in it where the Google logo has it's "hole". Then glue the tiny foil to the end of the stick on the dustcap. Trick: You have to let the first glue dry first before you glue the foil on. Have fun, it's hard and very fiddly. Use PVA cos you have a second chance, and even more chances of getting it right. You can't do it with your hands. A bit of spit and a toothpick will do it. Even harder to do, now, but at least possible. The best strings you will ever hear. You can hear the friction of the bow on the strings. And voice "S's" are sweet and perfect. As long as you stick to that size foil. The treble comes from both sides of the foil and sounds 3D. See my channel if you are interested (not far down).

When I was around 14 or 15, I used to spend hours in Audio Gold talking to the owner Richard (not this guy) and listening to various speakers. Nearly all the hi-fi I bought over the next few years was from him, not that it was a great deal, but it was a pretty memorable part of my teenage years. It used to be on the other end of Park Road to to where this was filmed. His reference speakers that weren't for sale were Celestion Ditton 66s which I adored.

I owned that gorgeous Revox back in the 1990's. It just sounded unlike any other tape machine I ever heard before. Unfortunately I sold it after figuring it out to be sort of a novelty for me. I wanted to use really great tape in it and I bought into Ampex 456 I believe it was. It was ridiculously expensive and so I was forced to abandon the format.

I would have a field day in there ... to replace a vintage Technics system that was stolen from me... still hurt to this very day behind it plus a full collection of Cd ‘s 💿 Album’s and DVD ‘s 📀 cassettes. Hurts my heart a collection I built from 1986 to the present I’ve been praying 🙏🏽 that they will have a heart ♥️ and return them to me because that was my hobby that was my enjoyment that is what made me happy when I would be sad or stressed or feeling the need to chill out after a rough or bad day..my music 🎶 did that for me ... everyone needs an outlet mine was travel 🧳 and music 🎼 was and still is mine but they just don’t know they ripped the very core of my heart ♥️ out when theyvtook my equipment and my movie ‘s 🎥 and music 🎵 it will be a year come the 27th of November and it still hurts.

I know how you feel! I had a Technics system, which I replaced parts of it with Mid-End Pioneer kit. I replaced the Digital Technics CDP with a Pioneer PDS-707, and the Tape Deck with a CTW-806DR! I still have the Technics SBCS-70 speakers, we got burgled during a house move which I only move the amp and speakers at the time. I was coming back for the rest nd in between trips someone broke in and the hifi they didn't take they smashed, along with tons of vinyl and CD's! My Vinyl was stacked ready to go - the burglars smashed the lot. Heartbreaking, but at least I still have the speakers! Which are actually quite rare - they hardly ever pop up on eBay! I'm rockin a Pioneer SA520 these days with my Speakers (Which sound great with this amp) and a Sony Turntable. My Turntable that was stolen was an Audio Technica! Technics amp that was stolen was the SU-X502.

I have some old Technics 3 way speakers with 10 inch woofers, got them second for like 50 euros. And believe me I have heared expensive bi-wired, narrow tower B&W speakers and while the B&Ws may win in the tweeter department, their bass is so outgunned by wath my cheap 10 inchers can do. People don't realize anymore what a good old fashioned big woofer can do to the music. ;-)

I thought it looked like one of those places. I got most of my stuff for free in the 90's when it was worth nothing. People are asking pisstake prices for very ordinary equipment these days because punters don't know any better and can't be arsed to do a bit of research online.

Great shop...from one uk tannoy specialist to another ;-) (there's one other professional in the uk for all things vintage Tannoy 😉..from design and build of cabs to rebuilding drive units and new ptp crossovers). Agree about Tannoys...they have scope for way better performance in better modern cabinets...the originals were mostly an afterthought and pretty coloured sounding. Hpd 315s are imho the ullimate domestic speaker choice in a well designed cabinet...more so than the more sought after MG series. Factory crossovers can be massively improved on too...but there aren't any curcuits on line that are anywhere close to correct...just guesswork mostly. You have to spend silly money today to better them.
