@cuoresportivo1552 ай бұрын
the LP60, and all it's clones and siblings look and feel a bit cheap so it would be nice to go with something like the lp70. No real complaints about the lp60 sound quality though, just that the belts seem to stretch far to fast for me. Always keep the cue lever up when powering up an automatic turntable like this for the first time, that way nothing bad can happen.

One drawback is that you now have to open the dust cover to operate the controls, whereas the LP60X had them on the front. I know the conventional wisdom is that it's best to leave the cover open while playing a record, but as I proved a while back, that is actually false, and it's best to close the cover while playing. And FYI, at 13:00 you can see the counterbalance spring. So just like the LP60X, it uses a spring instead of a counterweight.

A great addition by Audio Technica. So much better than the Lp60. I love that you can change the Cartridge and that you can ensure you can keep the Tonearm in place with the clip. The clip may be plastic but serves it's purpose. I suspect the reason there is no slot to put a 45 adaptor in is that the idea is that the Turntable resembles something closer to a regular Turntable. When I got my first cheap Turntable as a teenager, Turntables did not have a slot as there was no requirement.

Just want to make something clear opening ANY PRODUCT under US law DOES NOT void the warranty. As for those warranty void stickers some manufacturers put on the product those are technically illegal according to the FTC and will not void the warranty if removed. The only way a manufacturer can void your warranty is if they can prove you damaged something when you opened it.

Correction: The LP70X tonearm is spring-counterbalanced just like the LP60X, clearly visible at 12:59. The spring appears stronger and thicker to accommodate the lower 2 gram VTF. I think the thickness might also explain the VTF accuracy, not even .1 of a gram off!

I recommend buying the ML stylus because it the bang for the buck, maximum detail, minimal distortion, longest lifespan maybe even 1000hours(better sound longer lifespan win win) reads old records so deep it is basically virgin territory Tracks like a champ. Only thing is that it is picky about VTA and azimuth. But that should not be a problem because everything is all set. This player really looks one of the best entry level products out there now.

I have what I believe is a vintage TT. I don’t really know much about it. I bought it used in a pawn shop. It’s an A/T LP120. It’s direct drive, big and heavy. I’ve seen a modern version of it selling for around $300-$350 (used). It seems like a much more complex unit than the LP 70X that you reviewed here. That having been said, the LP 70 looks like a unit that at least represents forward movement, technologically. And obviously it specs out really well. The only concern I have, is how long it would last under normal, careful use. But that’s just me. I want things to last forever. But at the price point I’d say it’ll probably last long enough.
@Recordology2 ай бұрын
Sounds like you have the original LP120. A good solid TT! It was released in 2009. Some people said it had some motor noise and the preamp was filtering audio even when bypassed. So there was this big movement where people were surgically removing the built in preamp. I think a lot of that was inflated. Overall the turntable became legendary and quite popular. Around 2017-18 they released the LP-120X which had lower motor noise and a fully bypassable preamp, but sacrificed the nice metal 45 adapter and the VTA adjustment. You have a solid unit!
@CraiginOhioUSA2 ай бұрын
21:20 I can absolutely understand why they introduced this model. The LP60 is very unattractive. It's odd size, and hideous arm absolutely kill it. And that cartridge is the final nail. It's repulsive ( if one is passionate about design). It was functional, though. That's the best thing I can say about it. I think of it as less than entry level. It is better than a suitcase unit. There is no logical reason for that ugly thing to exist, and now, here is the upgrade. For perhaps less manufacturing cost, yet a higher selling price, is the visually pleasing LP70. It's very handsome. The dimensions are like any other normal turntable. The cartridge is fine. I actually prefer the green stylus. The average listener will be completely satisfied with the selection of stylus. I guess I understand, the unit is more handsome without a cup or nub to hold the 45 adapter. Most people will simply set the adapter on the plinth, and there shouldn't be any reason why gravity alone wouldn't keep it there. However, a tiny nub of plastic with a microdot of glue would provide a storage spindle, if someone wanted to go that far. I'd just set it there. I can see the ball bearings. To me, that is even stranger than the "peg leg". The unusual peg leg shaft, and the exposed balls are, together, quite a striking design. The gentle curve of the j-shaped arm provide an almost sensual design impact. Absolutely, the speeds should be ever-so slightly fast, to compensate for the arm drag. I wonder- why do you not check the speed, using a template that allows for the arm to actually be playing a record? I never,ever use a paper template to check speed,without the arm playing a record. You have to have the weight of the record, and the drag effort of the arm actually happening, in order to check the speed . I love your video. Excellent. Thank you kindly.

Actually, you can safely play a record with as much as 6g VTF, so long as your cartridge is properly aligned. Do I recommend it? NO! But a record can withstand those tolerances. The new model seems to have very little platter wobble too! Regarding the 45 adaptor not having a place to live: if you've got a 'now playing' stand you could always put it onto that; face down, so it won't slip off, perhaps? The only slight flaw I can see with this turntable is the size selector. Firstly, what happens if you have a 10 inch record? The size selector switch should have a middle choice for these, even though they are not very often played, when compared with 7 inch and 12 inch records. Secondly, it seems easy to forget to change this and have it miss the record completely if you have the 12 inch size selected and you try to play a 7 inch record. Unless, the selected speed also plays a part in this; though this will negate how to play a 7 inch at 33 and a 12 inch at 45!

You can disable the auto return without opening up the turntable. Super easy to do, and it's a completely reversible tweak. It will disable all automatic functions though. It's helpful if you want to play a record that trips auto-return before it's done playing. I have four or five like that in my collection. Lift the platter. Take the screw out of the center of the big gear and lift it off the pivot. Do NOT remove the little lever from the gear. Set the gear aside, and reinstall the platter. Voila, fully manual. CAVEAT: DO NOT USE THE START/STOP BUTTONS. The turntable will start running when you swing the arm over the record, and will shut off when returned to its rest, just lke most fully-manual 'tables. If you accidentally push the start button, the turntable will not turn off. You'll have to unplug it and re-install the gear to reset it. To restore the automatic features, just put the gear back where it belongs, start the turntable, and allow it to cycle. Back to factory spec, just like that.

It appears the biggest difference between the 60 and the 70 is its a little more up to date styling. It looks a bit more higher end. Hello my friend, neighbor from Winter Garden. What is a small set of bookshelf speakers that you would recommend for the LP70? Something like monitor speakers sized
@Recordology2 ай бұрын
The small Majority ones we recently reviewed are great but I can't be separated from my Fluance ai41s - simple the best!
@lazydobo109421 күн бұрын
Ahh, do I need external speakers for this? Or just a volume control
@Donnie-ys7vr17 күн бұрын
you need an external speaker, the turntable comes with built in pre-amp, so u just need to get an active speaker with amplifier

I like it!

very good cart for the price, i use on my lp-3 and its a lot better than my old 3600.
@u.s.armyvet89472 ай бұрын
The 3600 is a hidden gem and really under rated IMO. You can upgrade the stylus on these. I did the RigB mod on mine and upgraded the stock stylus with an Analogis, Nude Elliptical, Synthetic Black Diamond. You can look up the RigB mod and Analogis stylus by doing a search. I basically took a $25.00 cartridge and modified it to sound like a $300.00 cart. for less than a hundred dollars. I’d say it sounds just as good as an Ortofon 2M Blue, but at a fraction of the cost. I learned something plus I had fun tweaking it. 😎

Agreed! If it cost more - it would be more popular lol!

ps another question , can you say how better the sound increases nuying a more expensive stylus? like does it change bass treble mid inputs ? or the overall tones? clarity?

Overall tones and clarity.

Trying to select my first turntable. How does this one compare to the lp3xbt and lp120xbt.
@Recordology2 ай бұрын
This and the LP3 are full automatics so I would recommend one of them - the LP3 edges this out slightly.

I may have missed it but can you confirm at all if the audio Technica turn tables are made in Taiwan? Or where they are made?
@Recordology2 ай бұрын
The LP70X is made in China.
@Recordology2 ай бұрын
Almost all of Audio Technica turntables (except the LP30 series) are made by Hanpin.
@Cadpat072 ай бұрын
@@Recordology that’s unfortunate. I thought all their turn tables were made in Japan or Taiwan. I could have sworn I seen somewhere they were.

Attractive TT & certainly a step up on the LP60 with a nicer tone arm & upgradable cart, the price in Australia makes it a somewhat silly option though if you can find a deal on an LP3 for very little more & even cheaper 2nd hand obviously.
@Cadpat072 ай бұрын
Is an anti-skating needed? I see it doesn’t have one. New to this stuff. I have subscribed:) if you can please answer the 3 comments I have, it will help a lot!
@Recordology2 ай бұрын
It has a factory adjusted anti skate since the cart is non replaceable.

Spring controlled tracking force? looks to be a spring at rear of tone arm. But that's fine.
@Jammerk402 ай бұрын
Hey would the 45 rpm adapter fit on the back of the tone arm it sure does look like it would?
@Recordology2 ай бұрын
Interesting idea but no its too thick....

1:28 - The ATN91 is an upgrade for the AT3600L, but you have to be able to change the weight from 3,5 to 2,5 - not sure if the turntable you talk aout is able to do that.

I too am a bit confused as to where audi9 technica is positioning this in their turntable lineup. I thought maybe it was a replacement for the LP120 but that is not an automatic turntable. It is only slightly more expensive than the LP 60 so maybe they’re going to phase out that model? I do prefer the statics of the LP 70 over the 60 though. I like that it is a larger plinth and has some nice color options as well. Did you know that they also released matching speakers for the turntable? I think they only come in black though.
@Recordology2 ай бұрын
Yes! I meant to mention those!

@@Recordology Yah, not sure how good they will be, but a nice option to have!

Legally, it does not void your warranty to open up devices. Includes, iPhones, radios, turntables. It's the right to repair law.
