Hopefully this would be a thing of the past, but normally most cheap DAC handle impedance of 6-60 Ohms, this headset are right on the middle and share specs with most popular headset like Logitech so it should drive nicely on any device. Getting close to 60 Ohms is when not all DAC can handle it well and beyond 60 is when a good sound-card or DAC is required. Just as reference most demanding headphones use up to 300-600 Ohms and those require not even an external DAC but also powerful enough since ain't the most common standard to have this high value. Love ATH brand for not pushing the requirements, they run well on anything and just talks about the quality of sound they can provide with so little power when you hear about them on reviews.

My m50x sound 1000 times better with amp and louder, everyone keeps saying on reddit you don't need one but listening to music on low to regular volume on computer or phone is depressing and just makes the music experience dull. Like the amp makes it sound insanely louder but also more clarity and makes most headphones reach their full potential
@makunouchiippo81610 ай бұрын
Man you must be half deaf if you need an extra amp for those. I never needed to go higher than 30% volume on windows with my old ATH-M30 ones lol

Meaning (for clarification on one part of the video) if you are using a phone that doesn't have a built in DAC, the headphones will not work, unless you use an adaptor that has a built in DAC (is the solution). The exception is wireless headphones, since they do have a DAC built into them. Meaning if you use those wireless headphones WITH a wire/cable, you don't need an audio adaptor/dongle that has a built in DAC, because you already have one in the headphones. But you'd probably want an adaptor with a built in DAC anyway, because your car might not have a DAC if you're using a cable there, or you might also use wired earphones sometimes, or something. Although, if you want the DAC in your bluetooth headphones (used with a cable) to take priority, then you wouldn't want a DAC built into the adaptor, because the first DAC is what will do the "digital-to-analog" conversion, leaving the next DAC with no "digital" to convert. I think....... someone do correct me if I am mistaken. Currently in the process of learning here.

So the purpose of this video is to Answer the following questions : 1) Will this set of headphones work without a DAC ? Answer- yes, all deiveces built with speakers and/or TRS(minijack) input have Digital to Analogue Converters(including mobile phones). The problems is some DACs are better than others as well as limited, hence the reason why some may choose to buy separate DACs. Question2: Do these headphones need amplification? Answer - usually no, they have a fairly low impedance and do not require amplification.( Some devices may come as stand alone or offer various functionality like and amp can have it's own DAC for example.) Wireless headphones have their own DAC but when used with a wire I believe they won't use the built in DAC.

@@florinG - That's interesting. So (whilst I do have the bluetooth version of these headphones) I'm coming from the phone side of things, as far as phones not having a headphone jack anymore, and now requiring a USB-C to 3.5mm female jack adaptor that has a DAC built into it, otherwise no audio will play through the audio device you plug into it (if the adaptor has no DAC). Though I imagine this changes when the audio device has a DAC built into it, like wireless headphones being used with a cable, but your last sentence makes me unsure of that. This stuff is hard to google, because the results are generally only for similar but different questions.

I cannot say much about the ones without a minijack as I have not run any tests on those, but if you have any questions about a product and cannot find answers I would contact the manufacturer, either Audio-Technica or the phone manufacturer. They should be able to provide a correct answer to your query, thanks.

I never ever had and used hardware like these dac/amp/interface. After days of trying to learn and research for a desktop use, I might start with fiio k3 for my ATH m50x headphones, I need it for my video editing work and need it asap. So hopefully this is the right choice and I'll order aside with dt770 80ohms headphones. Kindly advice. Thanks!

Headphone amps will improve the sound quality too............. I have a GAMING LAPTOP (Acer Predator Helios 300) whose audio quality is average. When i play music and listening to it on my ATH m50x, it doesn't sound that great, it doesn't have any bass. Then i figured out that a good Audio chipset will produce great sound and in my laptop's motherboard, it had an average/older audio chipset. So i ordered the same Fiio k3 Headphone amp and now the sound quality has been boosted with more clarity and bass. Along with a Good Pair of Headphones, A good audio source is also important.

I recently purchased a new headset (ATH-M50xBT) and noticed that it has a p65 (Proposition 65 Cancer and Reproductive harm) warning on the back of the box. I looked at several other Audio Technica headsets and many of them seemed to carry this warning. Is anyone familiar with this warning or why it would be listed on so many of the AT products? Should I send mine back? I got it at B&H. This warning label is located in the back of the box. Also did your box come with a plastic cover for the headphone box? Mine didn’t! Just a box

I think it's a label they are required to have while sold in America, I wouldn't be able to tell you whether it is harmful or not as a fact but as an opinion don't think it is, but hey it's just my opinion.

Can I use the M50XBT for the music production when i connect it with the cable to the sound card? Is there any difference in the sound compared to the wired version?

I am sorry I have not gotten the chance to try the Bluetooth version, and I am not particularly found of BT headphones as part of the reason. I believe the Bluetooth version has a different EQ to them and they sound slightly different but this is all based information gathered from reading, thank you.
@mikelaurence2 жыл бұрын
Hey bro, you can definitely use it for music production. It is better to use it wired than bluetooth due to latency and slight sound difference in my opinion. Bluetooth version and wired version have the same drivers.

The question I have is is it worth to invest in a DAC+AMP for these headphones? I'm looking at the fiio btr7 and am wondering if it is worth it.

I enjoy the sound more with than without. It's also nice to be able to use them corded with mobile devices that have ditched the headphone jack, especially if you end up using them to take a call. The mic on the BT version can be hit and miss, but the mic on the optional cord is great.

If you only listen to music through your phone at high volume, don't buy a dac as the sound would become flatter and unbearable at high volume.
