This was published on my 60th birthday and many things said in this video really hit home. This guy is awesome. A true rock star playing life itself.

The 815 tube at around 3:30 was used as the bias oscillator in the Ampex 300 tape recorder electronics.

Great character, not some nerdy boring audiophile type. Bought tubes from him before. Learnt never to ask him which tube sounds the best!!!!

Right out of the gate and a cardmatic? Huh.. so much for the Mighty 539C or the WE 15750 L2's! I wish I could ask him where he learned to work on them.I run a Hickok 752 but if I had his library I can see why the cardmatic would be nicer. Military or the standard commercial version? How I love to see this many fire bottles! Was it Ludwell Sibley ( of Tube lore?) who asked to use the Photo of the 15R? Then you talked about the counterfeit! I could rant for hours on the fake Telefunkens!! Now they laser fake diamonds bases of tubes thinking no one will take a pen to check. That radiotron 18 was a treat to see!! I always enjoyed seeing those direct filament tube warm up. Seeing those thin wire grow to a cheery yellow is always a delight. Unless I am wrong, they used Uranium glass for the 450TH 'foot' and I see the crimped metal base on top of in inside the tube. I forget what frequencies they where best at, sadly. Eimac is still in the tube business IIRC. I expected to hear that a transmitting tube is the rarest you have. I would have said an original Audio or a Zenith labeled 6T5. I won't lie, those 2 London 901's where dreamy to me. Reminds me of when I drooled over Tek 570's. Not an audiophile myself but a test equipment junkie all the way. EDIT: I followed along with the video.. perhaps I should have waited to comment. My apologies.

Having seen McGee in Kansas City and Mock Electronics in Huntsville,Alabama close up,this article is a gem of an interview. Also used to cruise the floors of Mendelson's in downtown Dayton looking for "stuff".

This is the best video so far but why does every god damn video have such terrible audio quality??? Great questions and interview. Richard seems to have a fresh take on this hobby of ours.

I like his comment about loving music so much that how it is served up isn't so important. I have a high tolerance for bad sound, the times when I had a really intense experience with recorded music was in my early teens with truly garbage gear that I was glad to have. I don't remember ever thinking that I would be having a better time with more expensive gear.

I used to go see Richard a lot, even to just say hi when he was on Kent in Williamsburg. So sad to learn that he had to move to the Bronx. Gentrification pushed him out of Brooklyn like it did to a lot of us. I can't imagine how he managed to move all of his inventory.

Seas Excel tweeter and midwoofer. TT25CF002 is worth about $250. E0049-08S is worth about $250. It could also be the E0037-08S but the price is within $50 bucks. What would the "infinite slope" xover cost with even the most BS audiophool passives? $1000 bucks each? I'll give it to them. So what is the BOM at this point? $1500 without a cabinet. So Joseph Audio is the cabinet really worth $5500?

yes, good example of all the closeup photos. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems as though discogs sellers don's provide photos usually, but just write out descriptions, If so, do you prefer ebay?
@kenmicallefjazzvinylaudiop64556 жыл бұрын
I don't think Discogs allows for detailed photos. At least, not like ebay where you can add up to 12 photos. Discogs seems more organized for serious buyers, but then again the highest priced records are on Ebay. You can more easily interact with Discogs sellers in my experience

Stereophile needs to take a lesson from Bon Appetit and start producing videos again. Letting go of Jana was a stupid move because she did great work, and at this point ZReviews is probably moving more product than Stereophile.
