Mr. Willams, Thank you for your time and patience with this channel. It is THE MOST USEFULL and helpful tutorial on any photo editor I have found! I am returning to photography as a hobby after taking off...maybe 45 years. My last camera was a Kodak 110 Instamatic. You can teach an old dog new tricks, but he needs slow and careful instructions. You have provided such. Again thank you for being so helpful.

I have watched several hundred post processing videos and most are extremely difficult to follow as in I do this and this and this with no explanations. I have watched all of your videos Mr Williams and you are by far, the best at explaining how to use post processing applications. No one even comes close. You are clear and concise, stay right on your topic and your voice is perfect. The pace is also excellent, not too fast or too slow. I wished that other instructional videos were this good. Thanks for taking your valuable time to do this for us. It is much appreciated. I'm eagerly waiting for your next video.

Mate, thanks so much for the kind words. I put a LOT of time into preparing for each video, and even I feel like sometimes I don't really nail it. So... thanks for the support. It's greatly appreciated.

Support for Turboprint has existed some time now in GIMP. I am glad this has been added tot DT. Since using Turboprint, I never had better control over the printing process. Thanks for mentioning it. This means it's high time I upgrade to Linux Mint 19. BTW, thanks for this excellent series. I am binge-watching the DT screencasts in your channel, because even though I am a longtime DT user, I still discover gold nuggets from time to time. Moreover, the screencasts are a joy toy watch! Thanks for the effort you put in it; I know firsthand what effort it takes.
Just came across this was using GIMP when I needed to insert a RAW file, and then in turn got a message telling me to install this!!! Never knew it existed until now. I did a quick search on the program and found this!!! Great work, and I will be checking out more of your videos in the near future!!!

In my latest tutorial I show the color balance module and how to use it to create an Orange and Teal look, as an alternative to using different base Curves for the RGB channels.

Yeah, loving the a7iii so far. Love seeing what the exposure will look like before I press the shutter button... that's a game-changer right there!

I tried Darktable with my Fujifilm raw files and I have too say it handles sharpening much better than both Lightroom and Capture One. Fuji raws are known for beeing hard too sharpen, but Darktable does a really good job. Images looks much crisper.

Important: Because of feathering support, the XMP format has changed too!!! This means, backup your XMP files too or better put them in git!

Hi Bruce, question: Have You ever worked with negatives in Darktable? I made a preset in tone curve (switch both side up en down and put a negative S curve in it). But I can't find a good way to work with color negatives. Could You give some tips on that. I like Your tutorials, first I read the manual of DT2.6 and then I check Your tutorial on the subject. Tht's the way I learn how to work with DT. Greetings from The Netherlands Dirk
@audio2u5 жыл бұрын
Funny, we were only discussing this very topic a couple of days ago! Don't try reverse tone curves. Activate the 'invert' module. It is there for exactly this purpose!

Yep, I've always had the vertical grip on my a850 as well, so decided to splash out for the VG for the a7iii.

In the file extension tag/label on each image in the light table, JPEGS show JPG...but RAW files have AWR. Did they mis-spell the tag or am I seeing things?
@audio2u5 жыл бұрын
No, with raw files, darktable will show the actual file extension, depending on the originating camera. So, Sony cameras will generated files with an .ARW extension (alpha raw), Canon will produce files with .CR2, Nikon will generate .NEF etc etc.

@@audio2u thanks Bruce, I'm an old film guy who has been away from photography since around 1990 and am just starting my "digital journey". I haven't gotten very far yet...actually just picked up my first DSLR a couple of days ago...a Canon 40D in near mint condition. I know she's old tech...but then...hell, so am I...lol

I have no trouble using the "?" to get help on any item in DT 2.6. My Firefox was already open when I used the "?" in DT, so maybe that's why my worked. Also, unrelated to DT, you have some dead/hot pixels in the camera recording you in this video. Just thought you'd like to know.
@audio2u5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the heads up! I knew about it, and if I remember correctly, episode 25 might have been the last time I used the JVC camera.

You're not bothering me! It's all good. It's just that as I said right from the outset, I make no claims at being an expert in all things darktable. I'm just a guy who loves the software and is doing what I can to share what I know. As you know, I just returned from the cruise and have not really had a whole lot of time to get familiar with every detail of what's new in 2.6, yet. 😃
