You will use USB, not optical

Does audio engine d1 dac really makes a difference from the sound coming out from laptop pc headset jack? how does it sounds like? like a surround with 5.1 or 7.1. Need advise guys whether its worth buying for.

Levi Francisco It will absolutely make a difference. It is like night and day especially if you are using decent headphones.

please explain how you show the audioengine d1 with the male optic attached on the back then at the end somehow you've removed it and it's female for the male to male optic cable which i have but you dont show how how to plug in the optic cable TO the audioengine d1. how do you remove the male part sticking out of the d1 it makes no sense

It is not needed, and I'm not sure if it would make a huge difference. Maybe contact their support.

I'm pretty sure it is just an option you can use the optical or the USB input. DACS with more than one input will not work at the same time anyway.

Hey nice unboxing. How did you find the audio output quality compared to no DAC?

The output on this guy is outstanding! What a difference it is making. I no longer hear audio popping my from onboard-motherboard sound. The headphone amp really.. for lack of a better word "amps" up your music to the point where I'm hearing things in songs that I haven't really heard before. The volume adjustment is very linear (which really feels high quality). I'm still waiting to buy studio monitor (speakers).

Luis Garcia , yes you can. I had this setup for a while. Take note that the optical connection will take priority over the usb so you must turn off the device connected to optical to be able to use the usb connection again.

Optical cables are not hot wired. So this demonstration was totally wack.Furthermore shining the light from the optical cable directly at yourself was totally irresponsible,even if it was for demonstration purposes.Very poor indeed zero marks out of ten.

Lol wtf? Nothing better to do on your saturday? Demo was fine. Audio is fed via optical, USB is for power. Light coming from cable is much more diffused than a typical laser pointer. Common man. Lol
