Something you guys have to understand is that Mike Shinoda has never stopped making music. After the passing of Chester Bennington he released an album called Post Traumatic and toured. and he even made music for that movie scream and collaborated with international artists and that’s probably why he sounds so good- he never gave up making music❤️‍🔥

"How did they come up with picking her?" Based on their interviews: Mike knew of Emily through her band Dead Sara. They started writing together, and have been writing together for about 5 years. Mike and Joe had been tossing around the idea of maybe getting the band back together one day, but only if they found the perfect voice. So Mike was writing some songs for a potential "maybe one day what if" reunion, and had some people sing temporary vocals in place of his. When he asked Emily to do that, and heard it, he realized that for the first time, it had the spark that was missing -- that it sounded "like Linkin Park" again. So he called the other guys in to listen, and they agreed, and the rest is history. (Between 2017 and now, Mike was doing a lot of writing for his solo work, by the way.)

They talked about how this all came together in an interview with Zane Lowe. Mike and Emily met back in 2019 and started working together but more for fun, they did sessions and stuff. Than they did a break because of the pandemic and started again in 2021 or 2022 not sure. Collin the new drummer was already working with Mike. The band did many sessions with different artists, not to pick a singer or start something, just for playing music and fun. And than they kept inviting Collin and Emily and Mike said "I heard her singing on stuff we wrote and this was the first time my brain would accept it as a Linkin Park song". The songs were already done and than they started talking about what to do, if they would create a band, if they would change the name etc. But Mike said it sounded too much like Linkin Park to change the name and so they planned everything with the comeback and stuff. And Mike did some solo stuff and a solo album called "Post Traumatic".

Mike released a complete solo album in 2018 about his grief from Chester's passing called Post Traumatic. He did 3 instrumental albums and a lot of singles in the last 4 years too.

They do have great chemistry and that’s because Mike and Emily have been collaborating since 2019. They’ve talked about this in a few interviews. Part of Mike’s recovery was working on new music, so he never stopped writing, and he brought in a few artists to collaborate with including Emily. This was not LP stuff, just Mike stuff. Over the next couple of years Mike, Joe, Brad, and Dave started writing stuff together - Rob had declined to join them. They brought in Colin and Emily to help flush out their ideas, and the 6 of them together just clicked and the music they were making kept sounding more and more like Linkin Park. That’s when they made the decision to regroup, and officially asked Colin and Emily to join. They never set out to replace Chester, and they never went through a process of auditioning singers. It all came together organically. And their comfort level with each other seems evident from their performances.

i think the album was pretty much written when he was looking for a singer. He said he had singers come in and sing the songs until he chose her as the lead singer. So I am thinking he was looking for someone to fill in the singing/ screaming parts and he decided she was the perfect fit
