Hi Ron, thanks for the video. I was thinking about picking up some of these. I have the Simply Vinyl Avalon which I think sounds phenomenal. But I need to fill a lot of gaps in my collection. I think it’s important people don’t just write reissues off cos they’re digital or Abbey Road etc so appreciate the balanced review. I think I would go for a reissue if it was very close to an original due to the availability of a clean pristine copy (if pressed well). I live in the UK and agree with your previous assessment that most Uk sellers overgrade and I’ve had some terrible experiences with picking up over graded originals. If the reissue is say 90% the sound fidelity of an original, the reissue makes sense. The thing I do love about Japanese editions though is it’s much easier to get a better condition. Just wanted to add that Abbey Road does do full analog. Sean Magee usually cuts the analog stuff…he did Cranberries analog spark reissue and the Beatles mono box. I think Geoff Pesche and some of the others can also cut analog...there is a KZbin clip linked on discogs of Geoff Pesche cutting a tears for fears reissue direct from tape (the hurting)…but that doesn’t sound great and I don’t believe recorded very well. Miles Showell cuts all the digital generally.

Thanks I agree with all the stuff you're talking about here very interesting that to know that they do cut some analog at Abbey road that I did not know thanks so much for washing and subscribing much appreciated

Miles Showell has said that he cuts all the Abbey Road Half speed records from digital files. He's said this on several KZbin interviews now. That doesn't bother me though, I've got Tommy and Brothers in Arms that he cut and both sound great to me.

Yes I have a video called DSD 256 and MoFi where I talk a lot about mastering records in the digital domain. This is going to become a lot more common in the future because record companies are very unwilling to release the original master tapes from their vaults. The original Masters are much too valuable, they are however willing to release their copy DSD file of the record. You may want to watch my videos very interesting. I learned a lot from making the video and thanks for watching and leaving great comments! much appreciated 🔥

Well it's been my experience here with these two different versions there there very good I was very surprised I couldn't do a little disrespecting on the old digital and if you recall on my video DSD 256 and mofi this is going to I think be the norm more than the exception moving forward. I just find it confusing when Bernie grunman and Kevin Gray always say the tapes they get are always in really good condition no problems at all and then you hear about the record companies complaining all their tapes are disintegrating and they can't let anybody have them. The biggest problem we have is with UK bands Abbey road always seems to get the license to reissue all these great bands and they only do digital why isn't there a analog productions type facility in the UK that would be fantastic we are blessed in this country to have a a guy like Chad kassem thanks for watching my friend and leaving great feedback as usual Hope you and the family are doing very, very well God bless my friend. 😊

The Roxy Music Atco I own are nice whether 70's or 80's. Some dupes I own are UK, Japanese, U S. Promo. I've never done a comparison, but if I hear pops and clicks, I move on.

I have had mixed results with Abbey Road Half-Speeds. Didn’t think the McCartney’s yielded the best results and Tears for Fears The Hurting didn’t beat the EU OG. I need to open my Tommy to compare to OG Decca. Thanks for the shootout as I heard their Avalon was quite good.

Yeah most of the time this Abbey road digital half speed stuff it's a shame because they get the master tapes. in my next video I ask the question are the Abbey road half speed master reissues audiophile records? and I answer the question 😎

Michael 45 compared the UK swirl, WWA, and German swirl pressings of Paranoid recently -worth watching .He thought the WWA was a very good option if you didn’t want to spend 1000+ euros for the UK swirl first press.

I'm still not convinced these Abbey Road releases are not digitised at some point during their processes. My Japan albums and especially Free's Fire And Water album certainly don't sound pure analogue. Some have agreed and others suggest it is indeed a pure analogue reproduction. Does anyone have the definitive answer? BTW great technical information Ron.
@RocknRonni
@RocknRonni Жыл бұрын
It is my understanding and I thought everybody understood that Abbey road only does digital. they do all their remastering in the digital domain. just because it says it's from the original quarter inch tape. like MoFi said theirs was from the analog tape. here's the problem if the original is on tape it's always going to come from the tape but what happens in between that and the lacquer there's a digital step in the process. In the case of Abbey road studios and mofi they make a digital copy of the master tape. This digital file is used to make the the lacquer. This isn't always a bad thing and it's a sign of the times. Because the tapes are becoming almost impossible to get out of the vaults. The record companies make digital copies and these they will share. I have a video where I talk about DSD it's very interesting you should watch the video I learned a lot making it. It's called DSD 256 and mofi.

Yeah sorry about that I just forgot to mention that Abbey road studios only does digital mastering I forget some folks don't know that. The title does say digital verse analog in my defense lol. so of course the records that I have are all analog and the Abby road studio records have a digital step in them this is why I was having such trouble because I knew I should be able to find some fault with these records but I couldn't thanks so much for watching and asking the very important question
