I like to use the JL Audio method for setup. I do one channel at a time and set the crossover point a bit higher than the -3db point on my speakers. Then get the level so the cross over point is equally loud from the sub and speaker. Then reverse the speaker cables to make the speaker out of phase with the sub. Play the crossover frequency. Then I adjust the phase until there crossover frequency is canceled. The JL Fathom line is expensive but incredible. They are highly adjustable and the builyin room correction is great.

Good stuff Mickey. Only thing I would add is that you are adding subwoofers to the room and not to the speakers. Tuning for the room is done by position of the subs. Pain in the rear but a fully pressurized room with little to no nodes is a wonderful thing

@@defsonic2884 💯. Funny I was about to ask OCD Mickey if his crossover has the ability to delay. Bass wavelength are slower take a certain amount of space or length to acheive those lower tones/Hz

This may be what I need to do. I have an Audio Research VSi75 integrated amp. I love the mids and highs but dislike its anemic lows. I need to integrate a subwoofer but since the amp doesn't have a subwoofer out, I thought I was screwed until I watched this video.
@michaelcampbell9459 Жыл бұрын
Great info and easy to understand. For those of us going with plate amp line level input dual sealed subs for music, do you have any mid priced recommended brands/models, like maybe Rythmik, SVS, size drivers are best, etc? REL is a bit overpriced and I don't need the bling look lol. Thanks
@MrBazsi888 Жыл бұрын
REL is not overpriced for its performace + there are so many modells. You need better performance than REL ? Rhythmik should be equal or better. Or the new ATC SCS70 Pro. Or Sigberg 1D. Or Steinway Lyngdorf S-210. But those are not affordable either.

What slopes are you using on the crossover you sell

Great video. Srajan from 6moons is a fan of this approach. Question : if you use a integrated (i have a Pass Int 25 ) it’s not possible to use a active x- over, correct?
@OCDHIFiGuy2 жыл бұрын
Not if the active x-over has a master volume control that you use instead of the vol control on the integrated amp. So lows go out of xover to active subs and mid/high goes to the integrated amp for the main speakers.

Hi Mikey, thx for the video. i recently added 2 REL S812 to my MG 20.7, im super happy with the result…… but in our crazy hobby, i’m always willing to try. However my Apollon PNC1200 monos are only fully balanced, how would i do that? can you make a balanced XCover?

Ocd - Please how do I setup Active crossover with tube power amplifier 30w class A, Wilson Audio TuneTot speakers and a subwoofer which not decided yet?
@OCDHIFiGuy2 жыл бұрын
Put it inline between preamp and amps or between DAC and amps if your DAC has volume control.
@OCDHIFiGuy2 жыл бұрын
You wait till you get subwoofers or theres no reason for setup. It goes between DAC/PRE and subs on the low side, main amp on the high side.
@naikrosh2 жыл бұрын
Not clear why you need gain control in crossover ? Can you not simply adjust the volume on subw to level match with speakers ?

Hi Mikey, I have Daniel Hertz M5L Telikos Monoblack power amps. It has high quality highpass built in -> towards my main speakers. What do you recommend me in this case ?

A subwoofer with a low pass set to the same frequency and slope as the DH high pass.... as a good starting point.

Hi OCDM. Love your videos. I probably will be reaching out to you for DAC and AMP recommendations for 2- channel stereo. My question regarding these Subs would you recommend these for Home Theater applications?
@OCDHIFiGuy2 жыл бұрын
Hi Gary, I dont make any Home Theater recommendations but yes, sub/s are a Home Theater requirement

@@OCDHIFiGuy I have two SVS SB400 powered subs sound great for two channel audio and HT. I will be building a dedicated large HT/Audio room soon and will be adding subs for both but don't necessarily want two different types hence the question regarding your subs. If they would perform equally well for HT as they do for stereo.

Does the electronic crossover you sell work as a high pass filter? Ive been looking for a way to high pass my main speakers and let the subs do all the bass.

The original idea of a "subwoofer" was to design a speaker made exclusively for the lowest octave of base in the human hearing spectrum. A subwoofer should have a response from subsonic (10) to about 40 hertz. These were expensive to make at the time but the first ones were true subwoofers. The industry loved the term and ran with it. Today subwoofers are just bass drivers in a separate box. The lower priced "subwoofers" are not as good as the originals were at isolating the lowest bass frequencies and producing them cleanly.
@jlo87752 жыл бұрын
Wouldn’t using a REL with a speakon connection simplify all this?
@BrianGarside2 жыл бұрын
It does somewhat, but you still need to tune the crossover and gain.
