I listened to Band On The Run in Atmos on headphones via Apple Music. A fun surround mix with a lot of echo on Paul's voice on the title track, a more assertive sound on Jet and I have a new appreciation for No Words.

Thank you for your unboxing of the 50th Anniversary of Band On The Run. It’s a nicely packaged box set. I purchased the single album only because, and it may sound nerdy, it came with the Half-Speed Master Obi strip whereas the box set did not. I have all the others in this series, all with Obi strips, and I wanted it for that reason alone. However, the most important thing I took from your recent video was how you opened the box set and albums with a plectrum. I always used a razor or knife and, fortunately, I never damaged anything I opened… but from now on I’m using a plectrum.

It's nice to know some people are picking up the lost (?) art of half speed mastering, even if if too many labels have long since forgotten it. It might be nice to do an A to B to C comparison of this release, with a 1973 UK pressed original, the US Columbia half speed from 1981, and this pressing. The Columbia half speed is the one that has been in my collection for years. I am still pleased with it. Andrew, if you have the Garrard 401 , we see all the time in your videos, I'm betting you have an equally good valve amplifier... let's see it !! I see over at Discogs, there have been a lot of these Abbey Road mastered half speeds, The Who, The Velvet Underground, The Police, Rolling Stones, etc. But since I have all the original pressings , I wouldn't have noticed. Future collectors items, perhaps?

Nice video Andrew, I hope you feel better soon. My favorite Paul McCartney album, as good as any Beatles album. A great listen from start to finish. I didn’t care for the running order of the “Underdubbed” version, so I reordered them into the original running order. A more satisfying listen for me. Love to see a nice unboxing of a lovely piece of brand new vinyl. However, when the record came out of the sleeve and we saw the label I felt a twinge of sadness seeing that two of the faces on the label picture are no longer with us. But what a fantastic legacy they have left

It says Wings on the back of the BotR LP! And Bravado still has the Double LP. Couldn't you make a video where you tell how best to play LPs? Someone uses lots of chemicals, greasy plate brushes and old pickups, please make a recommendation for a better playback! You're the Best! Thanks!

Get well soon! I am a bit peeved they only chose to release the US version. On the other hand, they actually replicated the US artwork as well (with the photos arranged in a different order and omitted "& Wings" on the spine. So at least it's a truthful recreation of that obscure version of that album - kind of what Paul did with СНОВА В СССР, recreating the rarer and almost forgotten 11-track version. The second disc, I get the idea what they did there. The textures outer sleeve, the visa page, the small type on the inner sleeve - all that are design elements of a passport. :)

Thank you for another excellent video. First, I like the 50th Anniversary edition album cover better than the original cover; it's a nice touch that Denny Laine is displayed prominently with Paul & Linda. I must admit that I haven't listened to the full album for over 25 years. Much of Paul music in the 1970's & 80's is too pop and cutesy and I never cared for Linda's voice. Still, I'm going to buy the CD set because I'm eager to hear the under-dubbed versions and take a trip down memory lane.

Awesome vinyl release, I've enjoyed the high-res digital lossless version but would love to try the vinyl (should that opportunity ever arise)! (I use T+A Solitaire T hybrid wireless/wired headphones, in passive balanced mode, with my FiiO M17 and external DC input for highest amplifier operation; 3W/channel Class-A power with no current limitations). Also, adore the Meze Audio 99 Classics! I still own my silver accent pair, since 2016, and enjoy the soulful voicing of them! Though my audio sonics has shifted towards more natural, just off-neutral, balanced sound signatures, the 99 Classics are just pure unadulterated joy to listen to. I consider the 99 Classics as good clarity across the sonic spectrum, but with a beautiful warmtgh, vacuum-tube bass output, and lovely harmonics! Enjoy the cans and records (over some nice spirit over ice)! 🥃🎧🎶

Nice upload Andrew, I think Band On The Run is Paul's most important post Beatles album as it put him right back where he should have been in terms of credibility as an artist. I still prefer other wings and Paul solo albums but there is no doubt this is a magnificent and important record. Nice to see it being unboxed cheers Tim

Personally a Red Rose Speedway fan but couldn't pass on this one. Underwhelmed by the cardboard packaging overall, and even more with the Underdubbed LP design, but certainly enjoyed the listen (not so crazy about the new BOTR remaster). 'No Words', after the recent loss of Denny, was very emotional. Hope you're feeling better Andrew, and thanks for the plectrum tip!

Incidentally the original "Band on the Run" release doesn't credit the band Wings either. The artists are listed as "Paul McCartney, Linda McCartney, Denny Laine." The first edition of Wings broke up before the "Band on the Run" sessions and Paul played guitars, bass and drums via overdubbing. Later Paul recruited a second edition of Wings, which he recorded with until "Back to the Egg." And I'm glad "Helen Wheels" was included; other albums that had more tracks on the U.S. than the U.K. releases include Family's "Anyway … ," Elvis Costello's "My Aim Is True" and The Smiths' "Meat Is Murder."

It's a shame that the 99 Classics are not available for shipping to Ireland.😢

Has anyone else noticed the back cover of this remaster of BOTR is different to the UK cover. The original UK (and other countries) had the three photos of Paul, Linda & Denny while this release has Paul, Denny & Linda. Plus there's other minor differences as well (count them!) so it's a different photo. This is the original 1973 US back cover.

When I purchased the U.S. release of this record in 1973, I was puzzled by the absence of 'Helen Wheels' lyrics on the inner sleeve. When I learned, years later, of the original UK track listing, it suddenly made sense. It's strangely reassuring to me that the omission wasn't corrected for this re-release.

@@Parlogram They swapped the position of the Denny and Linda pictures for the A and B sides. The UK back cover has Denny in the middle, the UK back cover has Linda in the middle. But I made a mistake -- I just checked and found that the labels of the original editions actually had those two different label arrangements, so that's not new. But of course you wouldnt get two different back covers ...

Andrew, I was wondering if you‘d consider doing a video about printing techniques (for record covers) and how the old ones compare to today‘s. I often notice how modern covers are way softer than old covers, with muddier detail. Also, the colours are often more washed out. I believe the loss of sharpness has to do with the printing raster and how they have to soften it up to not clash with the new raster when re-printed. The problem being of course that they are no longer working from photographic negatives but have to scan 1:1 LP covers. That‘s a bit like mastering vinyl from vinyl. The BN…. matrices are Optimal‘s. B stands for Vinyl (A being CD), and N stands for the year these were pressed in - I believe BA would have been 2010, and BN is now 2023.

Hi in this time I don´t bought this set, because 14 years ago Paul remake this album with box set in cd format with 3 discs inside,where have the original sound track,the other with extra and final a dvd with films of LP.I know as this new release have a good sound,because IA is present now,so the sound shoulder be clean my guess.For me that set as I have in hands,help very well ready.Uchino of Japan.I see you Andrew,bye.

Surprising that "Helen Wheels" made the cut, considering Sir Paul did not want it on the album. I think maybe by now he has relented, figuring "give the fans what they want". I listened to "Jet" in the underdubbed version (on You Tube) and was blown away by the clarity. I am glad those remixes are available on You Tube so that I can check them out without having to spring for the very pricey (I'm sure) LP's.

At the point of the headphones unpacking, still no mention of the source for this re-issue. Digital transfer or direct from the analogue master tape? A half speed all analogue version would have to be the best possible audio, short of making it a double LP at 45 rpm.

I'm really uncomfortable with the way McCartney is creating expensive collectables. I have no issue with some older records being rare, because they weren't appreciated at the time of release, but this feels like exploitation. I bought the 2 CD set and thought even that was over-priced.
