Wow! I'm honored to be featured among all these incredible systems @13:15 🎉 These videos always leave me with two takeaways. First, that there is no single approach to hifi. Second, you don't have to spend a lot of money to be proud of your system. Thanks for never gatekeeping Steve!

Nice, you're already exploring a diy path so early on in your journey ... keep it up! Seriously, very cool. (I've been diy'ing since the 70's!) Leveraging physics, diy platforms offer significant attributes. Attributes via sheer size, which oftentimes is untenable to mfrs, ... size being the primary example. Plus, your dipoles possess huge advantage as velocity sources (not pressure sources) ... they don't excite the room like monopoles. Secondly, and more importantly ... your points on approach and enthusiasm/pride, ... regardless of the expense, damn, resonates spot on, you're absolutely right. - There's music lovers. - There's gear heads. Certainly there's best practices that can elevate the experience, but wherever one finds themselves ... it's ALL good. btw, nice room

You know I had Realistic Minimus-7s and you see back in the 1980s, the prices you know, had us all looking at these old viewer systems that we wanted and Radio Shack was a fantastic place but the prices ... had us tinkering with our you know, awful stuff. So Minimus-7s were okay in small rooms but they weren't as good as they looked, because we knew there was a British business magnate who'd used similar speakers with his Amstrad 101 system - that was based on the Boothroyd-Stuart, Meridian 101 and 104 ... and it was also fashioned after the QUAD 303 amplifier ... and it had special Minimus-7 speakers called just the 101, and they were much louder and nicer than Minimus-7.

Can’t believe my very simple system made the cut 16:40 , I’ve got a feeling Cloudfeet (the cat) had a lot to do with it 😺 There are systems at the end that I’m sure would blow mine out the water but hey, I’m v happy! Thanks Steve, you are a hifi higher being! 🙏

Steve's record was broken on your very simple system and he started saying "Cyrus ... Cyrus ... Cyrus", you know from the Mission company owned by a late Persian industrialist, Farad Azima (RIP) ... who was often read in our US magazine reviews, long ago. But your controller amplifier is actually the very rare ONIX OA24, or what we called 'British shoe box', you know, ... it was not quality stuff, so it's interesting that your speakers that you enjoy are Proac Tablet 10 because, most would hook up Mission that were very popular (with the masses) in England or even in the United Kingdom as a whole. But Realistic Minimus-7 are far better than any of these but had to have expensive amplification or they sounded truly awful - the worst in the world but it's all a matter of what works best with what.

No medieval monastery styled listening rooms and nobody from the remaining 300 mansions along NY's Long Island, North Shore, known as the Gold Coast. There used to be 1200 of them and many were never yet lived in by more than one family. Why does room size matter? Well everybody talks about Live Sound being better in front of a real band and uh ... contrary to popular opinion, there were once elite Audio systems, capable of making a piano or whatever sound exactly as the recorded source had, but to sound like a real band it has to be played in a very large room. None of the rooms in this video, is anything like the place where either a real Live Band would be heard, or where a vintage Audio system from the Gold Coast would be located. But many sound good enough in these very small spaces. But most pubs you'll appreciate have much bigger spaces for the single amplifier combo used by a Live Band.

than iˋm very glad that iˋm not an audiophile. I only stream / hear digital, use active studiomonitors with a studiobased DAC, use room correction and invest in room treatment… complete opposite what many others do. And my system still sounds better than 99% of the stuff ive heard at any hifi store

It is funny to hear people talk of 'vintage gear' and not see some tube audio from the 50's to the mid 60's. I used to restore vintage hifi gear and currently have several receivers and amps from Marantz and HH Scott as well as a couple Dynaco preamps and when properly restored a lot of this vintage audio sounds amazing. A good example is a HH Scott 340 receiver that I refurbished and installed Auricap capacitors in. The thing now sounds amazing. I have had several friends listen to that old 1961 vintage receiver and all were blown away by the sound quality. But, with vintage gear that old, it does need to be properly serviced and refurbished before it will sound as it did in 1961. The designers back then were the cream pf the crop in engineering and a lot of this old vintage tube audio can be made to sound world class and is of excellent design.

Watching these videos with herb make me wish I had a real audiophile buddy to chat gear and music with. Lucky you fellas can bond over this strange interest. When I mentioned that I wanted to buy a stereo to listen to records, an uncle (engineering type, into speakers, cameras, cars, telescopes etc) turned me on to elac debut b6, and Stereophile magazine. Herb, your reviews are the reason I took a deep dive and like herb, I have more enthusiasm today than I did when I started five plus years ago. Thank you for opening my ears and tapping into my ‘dreamer mind’ with your great writing. In time I have gradually developed preferences, and learned that my preferences don’t always align with HRs (I think I am more aligned with Atkinson as time goes on, best I can tell). But I have to give full credit that what he is describing in his stories, are exactly what my experience is with the product. It’s a true talent and mission accomplished if that is your priority. Agreed that after a certain price threshold, the gear is good enough, there’s not miles between performance, and instead one is just licking preferences. Nothing wrong with that IMO

Tubes, or Valves (we call em) Analog, Vinyl, Speakers, (who's driver's fundamental basics haven't changed 1 iota, materials aside, since conception except in the permanent or electro magnet form) ....All words that make up 99.999% of my music listening delights, screw technology for stereo, hang on, i may have overstepped my point there ...i intend to go class D but never get rid of my valve- phono nor valve-pre nor valve amps, nor my 2 Class A amps(same for bi'amping), energy prices may drop or I may prefer to pay more to listen to valves &/or class A after I buy wotever class D amplifier that uses Gallium Nitride (GaN) transistors (my choice has been honed only that far) I have got 100 CD's, most except half the classical, L.P.s and 10 or 15 CD's I could not get (even for wotever money, (like Ravel plays Ravel, transcribed from what i know not but i had the csssette too & it sounds good & unlike scratchy 78's, digital remastered, good old technology) rest i hear in the car only. But 2000 l.p.'s ...small deal for some, big deal for others. But I still prefer the L.P. versions i have of some same classical CD's, I seem to get the best sound in classical from old mono L.P.'s ....but only since I bought a true mono cart' (no sound from vertical stylus movement = many time quieter background. Sometimes I think going stereo compromised sound quality, but only in a cart's ability. Y'all with mono vinyl do need true mono cart's, some chespies are strapped stereo & no different at all than a mono button or twisting your L+R 'hot' wires together, I found when researching pre-purchase. Heck didn't start out to write a book, just say "Great Video Sir"

ok so Bob the first guy should give me the 1st pair of speakers we saw because I want to listen to Mahler and I don't have great speakers so he should give me those speakers (I'm not the same Barney as shown at after 11 minutes, just so he doesn't get embarrassed)

2 things I learned from this... 1. I will never be able to spend anywhere near the amount of money and time most of these folks did on their systems. 2. Barney is NOT the fire marshal.

I think some people just like saying “Schitt” 🤣 ..don’t get me wrong, some of their stuff is nice for the money, but I think it’s too easy to get enjoyment out of saying it out loud lol

😂 to be fair, I first found out about geshelli at the 2022 Florida Audio expo. That led me to cheap audio man which led me to ditch the volumio/ raspberry pi combo (thanks Darko!) But yeah, guilty of watching the usual suspects 😊
