At the same time he was doing that, I was doing the same thing in my career in the oil business. Youngest executive and worked my way up to the top tech job by my mid-30s. When he said "How did I go from being the young newcomer to the old guy?" I totally could relate. Life indeed does FLY BY! What a great interview with the Legendary Jeff Gordon. Well done everyone!

Back in 96, the guy I was sort of seeing, was a huge NASCAR fan. His entire family was. We'd watch it every Sunday, while grilling. So they dragged me off to Talladega (April) race. While the relationship ended, the love of NASCAR was born. And from the start, I was a Gordon fan. Plus, the April Talladega race fell on, or within days of my birthday. I had standing grandstand seats for 4 years. Every single time, I would manage to be sitting next to a guy who hated Gordon, and would tease me the entire race. This one guy had headphones so he could hear the drivers talking to their pits. He'd hand me his headphones and say "here, you wanna listen to your boyfriend whine"?😆 It was always in good fun, and always such a great time! I can't stress to people how big NASCAR was during the late 90s, and early 2000s. And it is hugely because of one guy...... Jeff Gordon. He singlehandedly had both men AND women sitting in a speedway on any given Sunday to enjoy some high speed chaos. It's so hard to explain to people that what they see on tv, can't even compete with the real thing. Especially, a Talladega race. Trying to describe a group of 43 cars coming at 200mph, I can only liken to a herd of a million buffalo. You will not ever see them coming. But you'll hear them. And when they get anywhere close to your seats, you'll only get a flash of color. You'll never actually see the cars going by unless you're sitting way up high (or unless the pace car is out and they're going 80mph). And back then, there were no cell phones much less camera phones. You took your camera and 14 rolls of film. You stood at the fence, turned towards the corner the cars were about to come out of, and you start clicking. Hoping like hell you actually got a car, and not a blur.😅 The greatest part of it all once back home, was getting the film to the grocery store pick up, where you had to wait another day to get it back. You grab your friends, and you start opening packs of pictures, one by one. So you can all "ohhhhh and ahhhh" "oh shit, you got Gordon's whole car in that shot!!""😂 and scream for joy, before you take all of the film back to the store, and send it back in for 20 copies of negatives # 1, 8, 12, 16, 22, etc. 🤣 God, I miss the good ole days. Will always love Jeff Gordon!

Then, when Dale Sr won the 98 500, I realized just how great he truly was and began to kind of hate Jeff. Then Tony Stewart came on the scene in 99, winning three races in his rookie season, plus his greatness on dirt and his Indy Car championship, I became a Tony fan. Then, Dale got killed, and I blubbered like a baby. Jeff winning his fourth championship that same year pretty much sealed me hating Jeff. It's been over 20 years since I considered myself a Gordon fan, but now, looking back, he's definitely one of the best to ever do it, and I really wish that he would have gotten 7 instead of Jimmie...and he would have if they would have kept racing with the same points format that Jeff won his 4 and Dale won his 7.
