I hired Ray for a conference speaking event. He killed it. He showed all of the great big fight finishes on video, reflected on the win or loss, and we absolutely got our moneys worth. Best company event ever. We bought Everlasting boxing gloves for every attendee and he stayed around and signed every glove. With photos. Priceless. Class act.

@@justinfletcher7630 I'm a big Hagler fan, but I don't understand why people think Hagler won that fight. It was close, don't get me wrong. But Leonard landed more punches. Hagler didn't look like his dominant self. He looked a bit slow and like he wasn't in control. Leonard was just so fast and slipped so many punches. Also, the pace and flow were in Leonard's favor. I do, however, think that had they fought again, Hagler would've won.

Leonard at welterweight, before he tore his retina, is the greatest fighter in history. He mastered every skill in boxing at the highest level and had no flaws. After the retina tear he took a long lay off and was never the same.

What a fascinating guy! He's so honest and insightful. I remember being a child and watching him in the '76 Olympics. When he turned pro, everyone had an eye on him. His supreme talent was evident. What separated him, in my opinion, is that like Ali, he truly had the heart of a champion. He was so darn mentally tough and would will himself to victory against the other greats. He's my favorite boxer of all-time and a marvelous human being.

This is it for me. I first saw him on Wide World Of Sports in 1975 I was in elementary school. I remember all of those moments that they showed. He was even bigger than Reggie Jackson(who was huge) in my eyes. For me the pinnacle was the Hearns fight. I was in 9th grade and we went to see it on closed circuit at Newark Symphony Hall. Sold out so we walked behind the building and watched it on the truck tv. Magical moment🥊

Back in the 70’s into the 80’s was the apex of the Non-heavyweight fighters. You had Leonard, Duran, Hearns, Hagler all fighting in the same weight class. Then you had guys like Salvador Sanchez, possibly greatest featherweight ever, not to mention Alexis Arguello and Aaron Pryor who gave us two wars of attrition. Great time to be a boxing fan.

It wasn't uncommon for boxers managers to form a corporation for their charges. Mike Trainer advising Leonard to form a company and get investors for his debut fight was nothing new. It's how boxing was conducted. If you watch old fight footage and look at the uniforms cornermen wore they usually had the name of an organization on their white cardiacs. Jersey Joe Walcott, Ezzard Charles, Rocky Marciano, Muhammad Ali, they were all registered companies.

Sugar Ray and the U.S. Boxing Team with the Spinks brothers, Howard Davis, John Tate, Davey Armstrong, Leo Randolph. and the other names I now can't recall along with Bruce Jenner winning the Decathlon made for a GREAT summer.

I am also retired now and I have become a trainer of boxers now. I am an ex SA Flyweight Champion and in 1995 I became the first South African to win a Commonwealth Title (Belt) in London England. However I am still in love with this Sport called Boxing. When I knockout Francis Ampofo who was the Champion was named as one of the best knockouts of 2021.

I was hoping someone would ask the question of how he thought he'd have got on against Robinson at welterweight - talent-wise, nothing in it for me, but, I maybe would have Robinson just slightly tougher. Of course, Leonard made no defences of the Middleweight Crown he took from Hagler, but, relinquished it to go back into retirement (saying he just wanted to beat Hagler and wasn't interested in defending the crown) and Robinson was a five-time Middleweight Champion. So at welterweight, it's even Stephens but Robinson beats him at middleweight. Would Robinson have beaten Hagler at middleweight? Yes, although they may have shared honours in a two or three-fight series. Engaging interview with the great Sugar Ray Leonard. Thanks for uploading.

The thing about Duran and his No Mas, I think what happened is that in the first fight, Duran had to go down to his last dregs to beat Leonard. Like Ali did in his last fight with Frazier. Mentally, physically, motivationally…..from every fibre of his being. I think he just didn’t want or just couldn’t go there again. “Fighting” him again would take too much and he didn’t want to do that again. Anything less however, meant that a knockout was inevitable and he didn’t want that either. So ‘No Mas’.

I was the biggest Sugar Ray Leonard fan in all of NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE BACK WHEN GROWING UP IN THE 70S. I WAS SO DEVASTATED WHEN DURAN BEAT HIM IN THEIR FIRST FIGHT. I WAS SO PISSED CAUSE IM WATCHING IT LIVE ON ABC, I DO BELIEVE. HE ISN'T MOVING THE WAY HE Always did and just not snapping off those combinations. He right in front of DURAN ABSORBING SO MUCH PUNISHMENT. THEN HEARNS DID THE I IMAGINABLE. PUT HIM OUTTA THE SPORT FOREVER WITH THAT BEATING HIS EYE TOOK. RETINA DETACHED I BELIEVE . And yes I know it's called a detached retina. But as those years he was champion and all the great fighters he beat and got beat up bye. The best days of boxing forever. But I saw and loved one other guy as much as I did Sugar Ray. Aaron Pryor. A guy that never got the big MONEY. And ALOT of the reason for that was that RAY WOULDN'T FIGHT HIM. AND AS MUCH AS I Had just said for years, nobody can beat zSugar RAY. BUT AARON PRYOR, COULD HAVE AND WOULD HAVE BEAT RAY. AND HE KNEW IT AND AVOIDED HIM. AND That ALONE HAD ME SO PISSED I STARTED HATING HIM. AND YES RAY DID DUCK AARON PRYOR. ASK HIM. AND IF HE SAID HE DIDN'T, I'LL NEVER HAVE ANY MORE RESECT FOR HIM EVER. I FOUGHT A WHOLE LOT GROWING UP IN NASHVILLE. I WAS ALWAYS THE SMALLEST GUY. BUT I WAS THE SMALL GUY THAT WOULD FIGHT ANYBODY ANY DAY. AND I WON, AND WON A WHOLE LOT. ALWAYS HAVING OTHER REAL BOXERS TRYING TO GET ME INTO IT. BILLY RAY COLLINS WSS A GOOD FRIEND THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN WORLD CHAMPION. SHORT OF PANAMA LEWIS AND HIS FIGHTER IN BILLY RAYS 21, I BELIEVE IT WAS PROFESSIONAL FIGHT. 20 and 0 in his first 20 fights. ALL on ESPN. BUT I DID HAte it when NORRIS JUST BEAT THE HELL OUTTA HIM WITH A KNOCKOUT. AND HE DIDN'T BEAT HAGLER. HE DANCED HIS WAY AROUND TO NOT GETTING KNOCKED OUT. I NEVER GOT INTO IT BECAUSE I RACED MOTOCROSS AND PLAYED FOOTBALL AND BASEBALL. BUT WAS CALLED WHITE MIKE ALL THRU JUNIOR AND HIGH SCHOOL

The modern era began when the common man had access to vhs, home video. That was the dawn of every fighter on earth having tape on their opponents & it changed the sport. Since then, approximately 1980, theres been nobody p4p better than Leonard. Only Roy Jones enters the conversation but Ray put reigning champions away, whereas Roy would cruize if he wasnt pushed, I think Ray beats him & it looks very similar to the 2 x Tommy Hearns fights. So thats Leonard p4p the best in the modern era, which arguably ended around 2015 when MMA took over as the premier combat sport. So how does he rate on the all time list, or more importantly, how would the fighters before him cope if they have the whole world recording his fights ? That alone gives Ray a credible argument for being the absolute best of all time but outa respect for their reputations & all the boxers & coaches they have inspired, including Ray himself, I rank Sugar Ray Robinson #1 & Ali #2 with Ray #3 & Roy Jones #4.
