can you explain "time signatures as tonalities"? I want to learn more!
@themelodicduo77596 ай бұрын
@@enschwartz im not 100% what they mean but what im assuming what they mean is that 4/4 is a basic beat, most common one, but time signatures like 5/4 and 7/8 feel incomplete, because its just one more than 4 or one less than 8. they leaving a feeling of wanting or like something is missing, which is a common theme in her music of course. 6/8 and 3/4 feel waltzing or swaying and so they're usually used in a more romantic connotation. that's what I assume this commenter meant. lmk if you want me to elaborate more! :)

It’s kinda weird for me to listen last words of a shooting star. It was the last song I heard when i tried to unalive myself some months ago. Im doing better now but, its like, a soft, sweet and bitter feeling. Bc its a beautiful song but the lyrics describe exactly what I felt. Everything was so dark and gray and numb and umbearably painful. I mean now Im on meds and things changed but I can’t believe that I went thru all of that and im still alive. Im still breathing. Im still here. This was one of the worst years of my life but somehow I found some kind of therapy in mitski’ songs.

This once, and then we can forget And I'll leave what I'm chasing For the other girls to pursue Mom, am I still young? Can I dream for a few months more? Last Words of a Shooting Star All of this turbulence wasn't forecasted Apologies from the intercom And I am relieved that I'd left my room tidy They'll think of me kindly When they come for my things They'll never know how I'd stared at the dark in that room With no thoughts Like a blood-sniffing shark And while my dreams made music in the night Carefully I was going to live You wouldn't leave till we loved in the morning You'd learned from movies how love ought to be And you'd say you love me and look in my eyes But I know through mine you were Looking in yours And did you know the liberty bell is a replica Silently housed in its original walls And while its dreams played music in the night Quietly It was told to believe I always wanted to die clean and pretty But I'd be too busy on working days So I am relieved that the turbulence wasn't forecasted I couldn't have changed anyways I am relieved that I'd left my room tidy Goodbye Liquid Smooth I'm beautiful, I know cause it's the season But what am I to do with all this beauty? Sometimes I wish artists didn't have to give interviews. Like they've spent months or even years trying to create something unique and special, using just the right words, just the right sounds, and then they play it for all to experience...and then they have to answer a bunch of questions about their personal life or where their inspiration comes from or what their songs are about. Like sure it might be in a way interesting to know that, but it can in no way compare to letting the art speak for itself.

@@hurricanes17 they're right though? Mitski clearly has important things to say in these interviews INCLUDING the fact that she doesn't like her previous ones, which delved way too deep into her personal life.
