Reprimanding the hotel workers as you strolled down that alley path was so funny that you amused yourself. I live in Australia where littering comes with a heavy fine, so there isn't much littering apart from areas where people don't really give a damn or respect the environment. Most people don't smoke here, but those who do are not allowed to litter their cigarette butts or toss them out of a car window. Littering causes animals to suffer, makes a place literally look trashy, and cigarette butts cause fires !

Crown property is owned by people who live in the City of London, which is a foreign state within the UK and not subject to UK legislation. Technically it is private property for those reasons. Crown and Monarch are two different entities after the Crown was separated from the Monarch approx 800 years ago and 5 decades after Thomas Beckett was killed. The Knights Templar were sent to acquire then administer the Crown and were granted the area now known as the City of London as their HQ. This is also why the legal system is operated from TEMPLE Row and the word ‘temple’ appears many times in many places in the CoL 👍🏻
