APD is NOT a hearing disorder, but rather a neurological disorder. Speech Language Patholgists diagnose and treat APD. Why didn’t you interview and SLP? What a shame.

I would assume that if it is loud enough to cancel out conflicting noises then it could help, but also if it is a constant varying loud hum then maybe that might be overwhelming because then it's a lot of cumulative noise. It depends on how noises are affecting him as an individual. The best way to find out is to try no white noise and see if he prefers the white noise back again.
