I thought maybe she was feeling under the weather and was improvising to get through the high notes; then she blew me right off my sofa at the end.

I know! That’s such an old trick, to have the audience sing the notes that you don’t quite have at the moment. But that is very much not the case here!

In 2010 Diana Damrau sang the original version in a German fun talk show in a kind of house music version .. look for „ Diana Damrau - Zimmer frei“ on youtube it is even better..just her and one of the hosts…a musician, pianist..it was her first role after university

I saw her sing this in L.A back in 2013 - I don't think she understands the song and she just treats it like a fun showpiece. It's not about blasting a High C at the end - doesn't fit the emotional context of the number at all. Moreover, Audra had the AUDACITY back in 2013 to throw some shade at Audrey Hepburn for requiring Marni Nixon's dubbing. Audra, you *NEVER* had a face like Audrey Hepburn's and no amount of High Cs you emit will *EVER* match the immortal beauty and sublimity and transcendent elegance encapsulated by Audrey's *FACE* during the film's "I Could Have Danced" sequence (especially the 2nd and 3rd verses).
@AmbersWorld3 ай бұрын
This is drenched in haterade and anti blackness. And that high C wasn’t dubbed. 🤐😏
@gp30193 ай бұрын
It’s not about understanding the song, it’s the audience participation part of her show, and then having the final word….to the delight of the audience. Stop being a hater.
@Rapture19873 ай бұрын
@gp3019 Any TRUE singer/artist knows that it's *ALL* about understanding the song and NOT about treating the audience like circus clowns and then having the "final word" in such an obnoxiously egotistical way. I don't think Audra has been raised well by her parents at all. In fact, I think she's a NARCISSIST. Donald Trump finds his female match in her. And ask AUDRA to stop being a hater first - a hater of AUDREY HEPBURN in her case. I guess she can't stand the fact that she will never be an icon like Audrey because when it comes to AUDRA VERSUS *AUDREY* we all know who the entire world is going to remember and cherish long after Audra is gone. Audra just has her little coterie and that's it. Not even KATHLEEN BATTLE ever took liberties with the music like this, despite being a haughty prima donna offstage. I wish Alan Jay Lerner and Mr. Loewe were still here as I would love to hear their thoughts on this "performance". She has been doing the SAME *SHTICK* with this song for over one and a half decades. There's another KZbin video of her doing this almost word for word with that stupid monologue in another country. She thinks she is it, but ANY number of singers the world over can blast out a High C if they are a soprano, tenor or even a high mezzo. Marni Nixon and Julie Andrews could BOTH hit High Cs in their sleep, back in the 1950s and 1960s, but they never reduced this song to such a CHEAP SHOW-OFF STUNT........not even when Julie Andrews sang this on the Ed Sullivan Show and Dinah Shore's program etc. Now let's trying to beat Ethel Merman and Patti LuPone on Broadway by doing her own version of GYPSY - if she's so successful, she should just have her own musical written for her, but no no no. She's just an over-inflated NARCISSIST and has the gall to advertise the show as "AUDRA GYPSY" for all intents and purposes, via the ridiculous font on the promotional material - what a fragile ego! Patti LuPone had "the last word" on that role back in 2008, and Audra will be nothing more than an "also-ran" by contrast. I will not stop doing ANYTHING for you, so don't you dare talk to me like that again. I won't bother responding to any more of YOUR comments, but I will keep calling out Audra's FRAGILE NARCISSISM and her OBNOXIOUSNESS. Watching her is about as entertaining as watching Donald Trump. You probably like seeing a Black female version of Trump 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
