As we may all agree that the scenario is either a bit or way diffirent from this of the original text of the novel, it's not the case only for this movie adaptation. Yet, what makes this the best is the chemistry of this couple, the passion that is not to be felt in no other adaptation coz this couple is the closest to this one in the novel especially Rochester's temper and Jane's plainess, truthfulness, and unexperience. In short, of all the adaptations I've scene, this is the most authentic and touching one.

I’m still partial to the 1983 version, primarily because it covers more of her time after leaving Rochester. Especially the struggle she undergoes, and her self-determination in another environment. It fleshes out Jane’s character in a way that most adaptations don’t, as the romance normally takes center stage.

I'm going to be honest here and say that I wasn't a fan of this version (and I've watched every single version) However recently I've grown to actually like it. The actors show passion and love between the characters and although it's not true to the book, I think it's a good adaptation because I actually believe they are genuinely in love. Obviously Jane wouldn't know how to kiss because she's never had that closeness with a man like that but Mr Rochester is so in love with her, that he simply doesn't care. What was everyone's first kiss like? Mine was certainly not toe curling or heart thumping.

I really like this scene. It's meant to be uncomfortable; she's in her late teens and he's in his forties. In the book he refers to her as his 'child bride'. At this point, they are still unequal and this scene really emphasises that. It also plays on Jane's complete lack of sexual experience and Rochester's overwhelming sexuality. From what I've seen of this version, the awkwardness and surprise of them falling in love is much better. Whilst this Rochester is less attractive (really don't like the moustache, I don't care how period it is), he isn't meant to be. If he is very good looking, it looks too manipulative. Jane may be plain but she has youth and freshness on her side whereas Rochester is damaged goods.
@nora2200010 жыл бұрын
The mustache is NOT period; only military men wore mustaches like that one, and they were jealous enough about the decoration to actually challenge those who shouldn't have been wearing one. In the book, he is 35 or 37, not over 40. Jane's shell-shocked upbringing has her severely introverted, she is definitely 'damaged goods' and Rochester is depraved to the level that it takes a serious maiming and complete blindness to render him able to honestly account for his time and actions in a reliable way. (Imagine his end-of-story self flirting or seducing new mistresses, for example.) To me, this is a sad story with a happy ending.

Judith Randall Hinds Was fantastic in persuasion. Captain Wentworth was perfect for him. No he just doesn’t work as Mr. Rochester. The man is a good actor and I think he could probably play anyone but this is not his finest work and this is the casting director’s fault. The woman doesn’t have the youth that Jane would’ve had. Moreover no one can find the plain Jane that we all love.
@judithrandall46904 жыл бұрын
@@hockeygirl8401 Yes, he was gorgeous in Persuasion. But if you haven't already, you must see him in the 2009 British TV series, "Above Suspicion"; however, the first 20 minutes are brutal so you might want to skip that. He's much older and heavier and plays a present day macho police detective. But the relationship between he and his new young pretty recruit is terribly sexy and oddly romantic. I don't think the actors are awkard kissers - it's a director choice IMO. It's stupid to have all this passion but then kiss with sealed lips like the 2006 Jane Eyre - it's not realistic. They would kiss with passion but actors can't mack down heavy duty on A&E - but the characters WOULD have. So they do this open mouth, heaving bosom, too excited-to-get-your-act-together choice. It works IMO.

So many comments about how Rochester should be this or Jane should be that. The best way to get the Rochester and Jane that you imagine is to stick with the novel and the versions you have in your imagination. A movie is not a novel. Even a movie that is based on a novel is still a movie, a different work than the novel on which it is based. There is no obligation for a director to follow the novel in detail.

@@hannahmotta4908 I agree with you on that. He just didn't seem very attractive to me in any way. Watch Timothy Dalton in the 1983 version; you'll fall in love!

I've never seen this one! 2006 is my favorite and I like the 2011. I'm curious about this one now! I love this story more than any other. ❤
