The great thing is Brennan clearly walked in with very little idea what to do with the character beyond "I'm from the woods" and doing random stuff. As soon as Vic came up with "I recognise you from my dreams", Brennan knew exactly who Augbert was, and they both spun it out into a total dream-logic existential mindscrew.

The sad dejected "nope" breaks my heart. Augbert knows that he has only a few frail moments left before Vic can tell him the truth he's been running from. In one last act of impotent defiance that he knows will only buy him a second more of blissful ignorance, he begs Vehicular not to shatter the illusion that he has been living in. Why are they doing this to him? Why are they confronting him with the fact that he's known all along: his father has suffered a fate worse than death (by shadow monster,) he's moved to Florida.
