This was really nice footage of this event! I was watching these thunderstorms form so robustly over much of New York at the time, as well as North into Eastern Ontario. Frustratingly, they missed my region here, in extreme Southern Quebec! I really enjoyed the thunderstorm structure presented in this video, and the lightning/thunder! Great work!

Not sure if I left a comment on my channel or one of your videos about an old shelf cloud clip (it might've been the latter), but I did include that clip in a shorter video that I just uploaded recently which is 4 minutes 8 seconds long. There wasn't much on the both days that I got the clips from on August 26th and then a few days later on the 29th, so I included the old shelf cloud clip in it. I thought the picture quality was worse to be honest, but it's more of the audio being distorted. Still though, it's a very menacing sight, and was even more menacing in person. I remember the chase clearly. Massive shelf cloud as we were heading to the storm, a big storm too but no special weather statement or severe thunderstorm warning I don't think (which would be shocking, at least for the no special weather statement part), but I don't remember too clearly since that storm was over 3 years ago. We headed into the storm, and the skies just opened up. The rain was so heavy we saw rushing waster along the roads but it was mainly just small streams that had no depth to them, but as we got to a lower street, the rain started to flood it, but there was a small dry spot which we drove over, avoiding most of the flooded street, and the lightning was amazing if I remember correctly. I wish I recorded more of it. I just wasn't thinking about starting a channel yet, which was unfortunate.

Just for anyone that wants it, here's time stamps for only the really loud thunder and close strikes since they can be a little bit of a jump scare: 0:12 (loud) 0:53 (loudest one I've ever heard in my life and can be a jump scare if not ready for it) 1:07 (loud and deep) 3:25 (muffled, but still very close)

Hi, thank you for capturing such a great storm. My wife and I live in Sheffield, UK and we never see storms like that. We had that big heat wave here a few weeks ago and we both thought that a great storm was on the cards. But alas no. We had really heavy rain a couple of weeks ago and a few rumbles and that was it. We're keeping our fingers crossed because there is some heavy weather forecast for September in the south of the UK. Keep hoping some of it may come our way. Thanks for the video.

I think I can hear some tornado sirens going off. Is there a tornado warning or something?
@newyorkstatestormchasers2 жыл бұрын
I think it was just normal sirens that go off at fire stations for accidents or something. They went off right when the storm was hitting so I can see why it would seem they were going off for a tornado. 😆 I wonder if they would go off if a tornado was actually hitting the area or one was possible within a storm moving in, because here in Western NY, we obviously don't get many tornadoes, and they almost never hit populated areas, so sounding the sirens for a tornado might not be on their mind as much as it would be in a more tornado prone area. I'm guessing they would though (I'd hope).

What would you say the craziest thunderstorm you have ever been through, for me August 15 2015 lighting hit my tree and my street and yard was flooded
@newyorkstatestormchasers2 жыл бұрын
I can't really pick one single storm, because this was one the craziest for how close the lightning was, and there were another couple storms that had very frequent lightning in the clouds at night, more storms with severe winds, a couple with hail like last year and this year. This was definitely the craziest in terms of how close the lightning was.

@@newyorkstatestormchasers On August 29th, 2022, likely the storm of the year (Definitely the month), there was a fierce lightning barrage while I was at school. gnarly lightning strikes

I will forever remember this storm. In a place like western NY, these storms are not common at all with such a high concentration of close strikes. I normally am not nervous, but based off of how much I was shaking after the first violent rumble, I can safely say that made me a little nervous. 😅

Thanks! If you're referring to the sirens in the background, those are just from a fire department a few streets behind me to my south or in front of me to my north. They do sound like tornado sirens though, and they really sound like they're for a tornado since a storm like this is going on at the same time the sirens sound. 😆

Do you have timestamps on the closest lightning strikes? (You can put asterisks (*) to indicate either a very close one or a LOUD one, the more there are, the closer and/or louder it was.)
@newyorkstatestormchasers2 жыл бұрын
I probably should have now that I think about it, since there are a lot of close ones and a couple super loud ones. I'll add it to the description as soon as I can for anyone else to see too.

I almost felt like the same thing was happening to me, but it definitely wasn't the storm because it was only the hair above my hands, which does it all the time because it's short. Who knows though. A lot of the times for me, light shows in the distance are just as amazing. We've actually gotten a couple of those so far, but this one, while the lightning wasn't as frequent, still had most of its strikes being bolts that were visible, a lot of them reaching the ground, and were close. This storm will forever be one of the best I've ever experienced.

Maybe it's me, but I never could figure out why people leave their cars that they pay thousands of dollars for outside while their garages are full of worthless junk. If I had a garage, my car would be in it. Especially during a severe thunderstorm where it can get damaged by falling limbs or hail or other flying debris. Also, i would not leave it outside overnight where it can get vandalized or stolen.
@newyorkstatestormchasers Жыл бұрын
Well, that is a bit of an assumption because our garage isn't full of "useless junk". Maybe from your perspective it might seem that way, but to each individual person, stuff they have means different things, and we have no other spacious place to put all the main stuff we use anyway without the other spaces like the utility room and shed becoming so crowded we can't put other stuff in it or in the shed where the mower is. We have the garage set up with summer furniture and a swing chair with a TV sitting around so we can watch TV outside, and and we have a few bikes. We are not putting it outside, and the shed we have only has so much space. That's pretty much the situation everyone is in. Most people have no choice, because they have a lot of stuff they wanted to get and the shed only has so much space. The car I was in was also 8 years old and almost at 250000 miles so it was pretty much at the end of its life anyway although we still have it. We also only have 1 garage space yet we had 2 cars at the time, now 3 counting the newer used one we had to get because of around 15 problems on the old one. Not every situation is the same.
