So I've always had an irrational fear of all things Twilight Zone, especially the theme music. When I was 3 or 4 and the theme music would play I'd start crying.. and I've had this weird buried memory of the music being played to a scene of watches "flying thru the sky"..I've brought it up to my parents and my older siblings and they always thought I made that up.... then I found these commercials and it all makes perfect sense!

Great memories! I grew up just outside of DC in Upper Marlboro around this time, attending Melwood Elementary School. The only time I would watch WDCA 20 would be for their weekday afternoon cartoons and Kids Break with Howard Huge and Captain 20!

I used to watch this channel and also Channel 5 from DC from the 70s thru the 90s. Where I live in Virginia we could get both of those channels over the air and when we got cable in the late 70s, the cable company carried those two channels along with all of the channels from Richmond Va. The broadcast antennas for both WDCA and Channel 5 from DC must have been closer to the Virginia/Maryland Border for us to get those channels as we couldn't get any of the other DC channels over the air.

Unlike living between DC/Baltimore like I have, where you could easily pick up both the DC and Baltimore stations (although upstart WFTY never seemed to come through that well despite being just 20 miles from its tower). Its the channel where I watched Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles as well .

WTTG/5’s tower was located in upper NW DC, while WDCA/20 was located just over the line in Bethesda MD back in the analog days. Currently, both 5 and 20 transmit from Bethesda MD, 20 is branded as “Fox 5 Plus”

It's funny seeing an ad for The Star Chamber and Mr. Mom in the same month of commercials when 20th Century Fox pulled the former after two weeks, due to poor performance, and released the latter, and we all know the success of Mr. Mom.

Back before I would ever be allowed to see Risky Business, but wanted to so much. Had to sneak-watch it when it came out on VHS. Rebecca De Mornay was my ideal woman after that... until I found out who her father was! Now I can't look at her without seeing him. Sad.

I had forgotten how ugly the cars were in the early 80s! I got my first car in ‘83. The body styles were just hideous. The trucks were ok looking. Custom vans were still around, but those were more of a 70s thing, kind of like waterbeds. Had one of those too.
@pannoni8449

This low in auto design led to a huge reinterest in purchasing old '50s/'60s cars, and they were quite popular at the time, especially after gas prices started to settle back down. At the time, they were still cheap enough and easy enough to find and parts weren't too tough to find. Actually, waterbeds actually remained popular into the early '90s (just check out all those Big Sur Waterbeds ads I've got). I do remember those "Chevy Van 20" custom vans everywhere though as a little kid, with the "Chevy Van 30" for big RVs and motorhomes like my late granpa had. But its pretty sad when something like the Chrysler K-Car was considered "stylish" back then, even though the Camaro was pretty cool.
