I am so looking forward to this I was there with my dad as an 11 yr old cheering for Seaver before the game but the Mets once it started. I have heard the Reds broadcast many times but hearing the Mets broadcast? Wow!!!

The cheers for Seaver remind me why I fell in love with this club... It's a shame they're not playing baseball anymore.

I heard a great story about this game when I was in college. This was in, let's say 1983. In my public speaking class, a guy who would become my best friend told this story. He and 5 of his buddies lived in Hell's Kitchen in Manhattan and were huge Mets' fans which is to say they were huge Seaver fans. They were devastated when the trade happened and all decided they would go to the first game he pitched against the Reds. Realize, these are 6 teenage boys, no money to speak of but determination to see Seaver pitch. They all got on a bus in a straight line, each telling the bus driver "He's got the fare" and pointing to the guy behind him. They all scattered once they were all aboard. When the bus stopped, they ran like mad to escape the bus driver and whatever police were in the area. IDK how they got in without tickets, but they did. They saw the game to the end ... only to find out that there were a bunch of cops set to grab them when they left the stadium. They all ended up at the police station waiting for their parents to claim them, and they all spent weeks if not months grounded, but the guy telling the tale said it was worth his punishment. The last time I talked to him, he was working for Merrill Lynch on one of the highest floors of the World Trade Center. May I add, my first interview was in that company in that building in 1987. I didn't get the job.

"...Mets have come 'alive'..." Channel ad obviously produced before the baseball season began. Infamous sign at Shea after the 'midnight massacre' - WELCOME TO GRANT'S TOMB. Good chance that M. Donald wasn't there that day, Dick Young would be there as his surrogate. Seaver's 14-3 record with Reds wasn't enough to ovrertake the Dodgers, losing 14 of 20 in July didn't help. ...inept fielding...unearned runs...shoddy work... words used by Nelson can describe the '77--'79 years. The Felix Millan injurise were sustained in a brawl with Pirates Ed Ott.
