Unless you're *really* careful, extrensic rewards can make the game more toxic. If, say, Riot wanted you to play Renata Glasc more, so they dropped a quest that says "Play 5 games as Renata Glasc and we'll give you a skin"... How many inting Renatas do you think you'd run into? If it was "Win X Games" instead of "Play" then you've got tons of players playing as Renata who will feel like their time is being wasted every time they play her and don't win. They don't want to play the champ, they just want the free skin as quickly as possible, and you bet your ass they'll be the first ones to start flaming and crying FF when the game isn't a clear and easy win. Extrensic rewards create an obligation, and there's nothing more frustrating that playing a game out of obligation only to have it take way longer than you had expected. Heroes of the Storm at least has a lot of flexibility with their daily quests. "Play a character from X franchise" "Play a character in X class", so people get a lot of agency in what they choose to play. I don't think "Play 10 games as Jungle" would work in League's case, for example, because there are plenty of people who just don't want to play jungle.

If flexibility like in HotS's case is the only factor, then surely quests like "Play a character from Demacia, Frejlord, or Noxus" or 'End a game having dealt more magic damage than physical damage" would work

@@byeguyssry But then people would have to pay attention to the *lore*... (Kidding, obviously.) Something like that could work, absolutely. Anything that allows the player to just play the game in a way they still find fun and get the reward. I don't think flexibility is the *only* factor, but it certainly helps. You're still going to get people logging in specifically to do their dailies rather than logging in because they wanted to play, and that's a recipe for frustration in and of itself.

In HOTS the quests only apply to quick match as well, I recall in Ranked you just get the progress regardless of pick, so they made sure to not have the reward weighed against having a good draft.

Idd in ranked hots you get progress no matter what but most importantly in league people.tend to prefer LP over anything so if they cared for skins, specially for a character they don't even play then they would do it in normals. If you complain that people play new and are bad in normals, then it's a you problem. Dota's cavern crawl was notorious to create these type of issue but most people that cared did normal or turbo. Still there were people complaining their silver equivalent games were ruined. They now use a very cool token system for crownfal. I do wish league does crownfal like events for lore. Keeps people engaged in the world, have part of it be accessible to everyone. The jinx fixes everything made me think it was that. Riot has made some cool minigames, like the blitz saves poros game. Dota's minigames have been something: flappy bird, fishing and spear fishing minigames, Bejeweled, shoot'em'up, minesweaper, angrybirds, a fighting game and more that I haven't unlocked or spoiled myself. They don't have to do these exact things but I think it's fun to add something fun to play towards, like a carrot on a stick that's not LP. specially in league where requeueing and dodge makes the looking for game much longer.

Imo not having extrinsic rewards is what makes League as popular as it is. Adding extrinsic rewards forces people to play and will ensure more people get burned out by the game. If you don't have that you can play truly whenever you want. Oh, you don't feel like queueing up right now? Then don't. Simple as that. There are no rewards you are missing, no quests that have time limits or rewards that you could get. It's just simple gameplay first and foremost. Unironically the time there were quests in League were the times I had the worst time. I don't like being told what to do. I want to play and have fun

as a singed one trick (basically) give him a visual update but his gameplay is perfect and has been since launch, nobody else in the game plays like him, he has counterplay, he has multiple in depth strategys and can go multiple different runes and summoner spells, just give him a asu and play into the creepyness of him luring you in to chase him as apposed to him being silly.

Not having extrinsic rewards is good for the game. I enjoyed the game way less whenever I bought an event pass. I felt like I played to get the rewards, even if I did not want to just for fun

agreed, I am a kayn main and when I was farming for the prestige I was like "ehh 10 more games for the prestige" and I really did not enjoy playing the game then, and so I literally had to just finish up the battlepass by playing TFT because otherwise I wouldn't even finish it due to it being so mentally exhausting

I know league has a stat tracking system, eternals i believe, thats like the gems from dota (previously attached to items and then to heroes) but while now no one really cares, i feel there was more hype around its release than eternals. Out of the ordinary ones are cool like how many skeletons i summon or heroes i kill with them in wk. Oerhaps because if you were spotlighted on the vs screen or if someone xhecked your items they could aee them, specially if you put on a rare flashy item thry eill check such things as well. Its a personal thing that no one cares but the user but showing off passively like flashing mastery makes people interact more with the system i feel. I really sont know what they track or dont track but things like yasuo 3man knock ups, 3 man ult off ally spell, how many seconds jinx getting excited for more than 2 procs or how many chain seconds of hyper before it fades, singed or ww how many miles (yes miles as long distance traveled uses miles coloquialy, nothing to do with impvsmetric system) thfy have walked or chased someone.

Personally I had an idea for an ap skirmisher anti-carry with an similar revenge kill mechanic to garen. His passive let's him put so called focus stacks on enemies, and he gets more damage on auto attacks as well as cooldown reduction ala flickerblade based on the number of those stacks (maximum is ten). If an enemy killed an ally, he would instantly gain 10 stacks. This is paired with an point and click dash with 2 seconds of grounding, range increase based on stacks and an provoke on his e to lock enemies down and force them to fight him.
