It''s good to remember that rank compares players not to their previous skill but to the field of players, so a player could be improving but not improving as fast as the field and so rank down even though they're getting better. So if you think of ranking up as a metric for improving then it makes sense to inflate it somewhat

It's also the case for League due to the ranked reset for every skill bracket, the whole ladder gets squished and then slowly inflates over the course of the season.

In Master Duel, the real climb doesn't start until Plat, because you can't demote within tiers from rookie(iron) to gold. Plat is the floor you have to hit before you can improve

Same thing in street fighter 6, to gold you can't demote and can't lose rank, plat has derank protections and you gain more than you lose to and diamond has 1 game derank protections, then Master is the real rank system

Before emerald was introduced, alot of ranks in league were superdeflated compared to other games. For example, being gold in League was like platinum in overwatch or starcraft. Diamond in those two games was like top 20% while League it was top 2%, so League Diamond was more like Starcraft and Overwatch's master equivalent rank. Emerald kinda fixed this. Diamond is still super tiny compared to other games but ranks before emeralds match up much more closely with their counter parts in other games.

Keep in mind that sc2 had the ladder system of bronze-diamond (and eventually master and gm) before LoL where diamond was top 20%. So it being such a low percentile was definitely an outlier in the early days.

I hundred percent agree with this and in line of that, it would be great if Emerald Below players get a 24 hour LP protection from AFK players on top of LP mitigation.

Can confirm. Got challengers on another game and felt absolutely unstoppable because of league. Think it was around 30k monthly active users but didn't matter.

to say that as a designer we need to inflate over the season because other games are inflating DOES NOT NEED TO BE THE REALITY. Screw other games and what other designers are doing. People today are aware of shitty practices and miss the integrity of old games. I can guarantee that overtime, people will have more respect for the game that is upfront with how skilled you are at the game with a proper ranking system. This will make the pinnacle of competitive gaming truly valued, therefore making the brackets just below them as well have high value, so on and so forth. No one wants participation trophies...

Iv allways said. Put every neew account in between broncze 1-4 depending on placements. Leave iron for people who are really bad, and make it that until gold you get significantly more lp than you lose. So you incentivise playing. Because right now, if you can only play 20 games a season whitch is what i play because of time. Take away the games lost by tilters or inters, the game you lost because you where worse than your oponent. Your winrate whould be at max 75%~ and you probably only gone up one whole division

And make it that in flex it takes into account your team mates, we play 5 stack 2 iron 1 bronce 1 emerald 1 platinum. The high ones play solo flex from time to time. I get put againts gold or higer players, we have 50% winrate and the iron guys get less lp than the one playing in platinum. Wich makes no sense whatsoever

I'm disheartened. I sucked for the longest time, so when I finally buckled down and tried to get good, it seems like the system tries to keep me where I'm at (Basically bronze, though I've been as high as silver). Win too many games in a row and then all of a sudden I get ints/afks/etc. for like 10 games in a row. I'm not saying I should be challenger, but I actually enjoyed the silver games, sometimes with Gold players. Even if I was counterpicked, I'd hold my own. Currently, I'm in low bronze, playing with irons. I can always dominate my lane; I'm Trynd, so I'm splitpushing like a God, applying pressure, winning 2v1s, etc., but I still can't carry because my bot lane will go 0/20, my jg is going to ignore all objs, not gank anyone, and still have less farm somehow. You know how it is... Moral of the story: There needs to be a way out of iron purgatory besides being a challenger level smurf.

The reason that inflationary MMR is terrible is two-fold and simple: It deflates the perceived value of the ranked system and thus doesn't even give the benefits August projects. And worse, it matches players with other players who are just there because they played a lot and not because they have similar skill levels. Reminder: the skill gap between ranks is massive, even and especially in low brackets. So now you made the ranked system a joke and worsened game quality in all ranks affected.

Its hard to get diamond xdd pisslow elo is somehow hard now, huh? Who the fuck think dia means you good in any game? Until GM there is not even 1 human player nowadays. Sadly thy higher you go the more shit master players in ur team so idk why people still push for chall if system is punish you for being good and i cba to grind more than GM. But i get the point. League is shitty mobile game now.

Getting to diamond is not neccesarily hard, its just that most people do not care enough about league to grind their way up to diamond, specially if u dont start high on the ladder after placements, most people who get to diamond reach diamond 4 and leave it there for the victorious skin and thats it, most people have an average rank ceiling they reach and dont play ranked again, hence even if reaching diamond is not Hard (skill wise at least) a very small % of the playerbase ever reaches diamond (Also take into account A LOT of the playerbase doesnt play ranked at all, so you have to divide the already smaller than total playerbase into all the ranks
