Does it have the ability to work as a door ring or at least send alerts when someone wants to get in? My younger brother sometimes forget his keys and he cannot take his phone to school so he has no way of calling when he gets home.

Is there a way to manually unlock it without the phone or alex/google devices? As great of a feature to unlock but what if my phone was upstairs and i needed to unlock my door right away for whatever reason? Is it possible to manually turn the device to unlock it? Would hate to think i have to go upstairs and grab my phone to unlock my door 😂

It will work with Bluetooth. The connect just gives you remote access along with Smart Assistant compatibility. I believe you can still control the lock with Z-Wave Plus without the Connect as well.

Vojkan Zivkovic I believe the wings need room to lock onto the bracket- it seems like the molding was in the way- but that’s an assumption and my own research, bummer he didn’t mention it.

madspunch that’s why you send them a digital key for however long you want to. You determine how long that digital key is on for

I think he means the physical key. This lock is for indoors. You can still keep it like normal with a key if you want. I would say a key would still work since you can over power the indoor lock with your hand in an emergency from the inside. This is just an assumption since I dont own the product in question.

Yes you don't change the outside lock, just the interior so a key still works and you can manually twist it from the inside.

It uses 2 AA batteries. I just installed mine, but I've read in general they last about 3 months, but I'm sure that varies based on how often the lock is used.

No, but it does include manual unlocks/locks in the activity list so you'll know when they accessed your door.

If you're worried about that just change the key with Kwikset smart Lock system, lol you do realize anybody you give a key too can still get in even if this wasn't installed.

Cool video, the only thing you didnt mentioned or perhaps I didnt hear. Is if you can open the door from thr inside manually. For example, an emergency, earthquake or if the wifi is down can you unlock the door from the inside???

Smart Plug Yes, you can open it in case of emergency: you just turn the dial manually.

Mr Bridge No. It allows manual key or any of the phone unlocks so that wouldn’t work. You need to have a serious talk with your landlord invading the home you’re paying him to live in.

Battery life? will it lock me out if it runs out of juice? Does this mean I only have to lock the bolt or else I will have to give keys to all my trusted roommate?

What about break ins or forcing the door open? I live in a condo and I’m just thinking of someone forcing the door open. Will the lock inform you of an unauthorized entry and/or beep or something to scare away intruders? And if it doesn’t is there any smart lock that does?

It doesnt replace any of your locks. It simply fits over your deadbolt. Meaning if someone attempted to force the way in it would be just as difficult as any other deadbolt. The app does have settings to notify you when certain events occur. Such as door being unlocked manually or remotely, who it was unlocked by if they use the app, or when the door is opened for "x" amount of time. It's far more secure than a standard lock as you cna monitor it 24/7 from wherever you are.

@@ConorHildebrandt Oh, I misread initially. Sorry to say there is not an alarm system. The best it gets is a notification to your phone. Though an alarm tie in system sounds like a fantastic idea.

I know this is an older video and older comment, but addressing the comment. The August Smartlock is a Retrofit designed so your existing key can still be used, it doesn't have an outdoor part to the lock. It is not meant to have an integrated keypad. If you want an external keypad, the August Smart Lock is not the lock for you.

i have owned the august smart lock 3rd gen for over a year. it continues to fail approximately 50-75% of the time. I followed supports directions and removed the batteries, refreshed both phones Bluetooth and cache. The phones still don't connect. the app fails to connect, asks me if i am close to the lock, i back out, turn off/on bluetooth the lock connects and i can get in. same on both phones. this lock is undependable on android. this lock has had short periods where it worked as it should but most of the time it is a huge frustrating disappointment

this lock is undependable on android. august smart lock knows this, for whatever reason they cant fix the problem. i have spoken with tech support on several occasions and they admitted that even if i purchase a wifi bridge that will not improve this locks dependability on android. i purchased a brand new phone oneplus 6 android 9 still doesnt work. if you dont have an iphone forget it. this lock is unreliable.

You can still use a key if you'd like, and August sells an additional number keypad so you can unlock it that way as well. You can use their app to customize when your phone will unlock the lock.

Be careful if you buy an August lock second hand. If the previous owner doesn't relinquish ownership, you have an expensive paperweight. August customer service is terrible with this.

You can set an auto lock feature where once you walk thru the door and it senses the phone the deadbolt locks. Conversely when you're approaching your door it will unlock. Or you can set it up to be "manual" where you have to hit lock/unlock in the app. You also can use alexa/google asst./siri to lock and unlock via voice command.

The overall video is great, but your setup is misleading. If you check it out, you'll see that early in the video you are setting up on a back door with a window installed in the door. That's the same type door I have. I thought, "perfect” except you later switch doors. The reason I'm annoyed is because I was installing it on the door with the window. I thought that the setup would be easy like you said. It wasn't. Now, it's not your fault, because the door itself doesn't allow enough space between the window and the lock. I think you should have mentioned that in your video instead of switching doors.

If your phone is stolen a normal key still works. If you have a power outage, again your key still works and it's battery powered so you could still unlock it via Bluetooth, just not remotely since your wifi would be down unless you have your wifi on a battery backup/generator.

Can you still use a key for the dead bolt? Is there a limit on guests that you can invite to the app? Does the proximity feature work for guests? What kind of batteries does it take? Typically how long do the batteries last? Is there a feature that tells you remaining battery life? Dude, learn to do a proper review.
