August is another fantastic month in the Veg Garden and along with harvesting a wide variety of veg there is always plenty to do. August is also a great month to think ahead and to decide what veg to sow for an autumn and winter supply as space becomes available when we harvest our crops.
In this video there is so much to show you as I take you on another tour of my veg garden including a look at my fantastic tomatoes, amazing cucumbers and the wonderful progress of the rest of my veg.
I also show you how I am trying to make efficient use of the space I have available by using pots and containers and share some suggestions for sowing winter veg. I hope you enjoy the tour and that it gives you one or two ideas.

I always enjoy your videos- they are so informative and helpful and great to see things being grown in real time. I am currently growing runner beans, tomatoes, sweet peppers, lettuce, spinach, chard, onions, spring onion, cauliflower, red and spring cabbage, early purple sprouting. various kales, kalettes, herbs, beetroot radish, chicory, celeriac, pak choi, lambs lettuce, claytonia and courgettes in my garden. I have just taken on an allotment plot and have just finished my first deep bed and planted it up with leeks.I plan to put in more deep beds, gradually, and also introduce a fruit area and flower cutting beds. I just love gardening. It really helps with my anxiety and stress levels- that is until the slugs eat an entire row of new little seedlings! Ha ha. Happy gardening :-)

I agree that growing veg and gardening generally is relaxing and a real stress buster, even with those greedy slugs to deal with! Kind regards. Gary

Howdy from Central Texas!👋 I always enjoy your garden tours. Your garden looks great...as usual!👍 It's nice to see you're having a good year...lots of homegrown yumminess.😋 You are always so encouraging, and pretty much with each video, I learn something new.😃 We've been in a heatwave for 2 months; however, I'm still growing and harvesting.👩🏾‍🌾 This year, my winter squash, paste tomatoes, tigger melons, and kiss melons did great! 😃 However, I put all my watermelon eggs into 2 new melons...they cross pollinated, and none of the few melons I got were good.😒 Watermelon is my absolute favorite food!😢 Hopefully, I'll get a delish watermelon from the fall garden. Our first frost hits the last week.of November. Continued happy gardening!😃

Thank you so much for your lovely message and an update on all the wonderful fruit and veg you are growing. Growing melons here is a little more problematic due to the climate however as we are getting more and more warmer summers I suspect that growing melons in the near future will be less of an issue. I’m really pleased you enjoy my videos and it’s great to know that you watch them all the way from Texas. Kind regards. Gary

This year my tomatoes did terribly. I live in The Netherlands and had so much rain and the next 4 to 5 days it's going to be raining again. My tomatoes started rotting and spliting. I try to save as many as i could , but this year i'm going to call it a lost. 😭🍅 My hot pepers were a total fail and onions. Trying again next year. My beans , cucumbers, beets , eggplants, bell pepers and herbs and garlic did fantastic. 😁 I don't know if i have it in me to do a fall garden, still wondering if i should. I might be to late. Well that was my growing season for 2023. ❤ On that note thank you for sharing your wisdom with us.🤟

Thank you so much for your message and update of your veg this year. It really has been a strange year for weather and you seem to have had similar weather to us in the UK. In July and early August we had constant rain. My tomatoes have done ok and most of my other veg has produced although it has been a bit of a struggle due to the weather. I have recently planted some winter greens so I’m hopeful of a continued harvest through fall and winter. Never mind, the beauty of growing veg is that you gave another chance next year which I’m sure will be much better for you. Kind regards. Gary

Thank you very much for your question. Yes, if you start potatoes in containers now you should get a good crop for Christmas. The great thing about growing in containers is that you can take them indoors and protect them from the colder temperatures when necessary. Kind regards Gary

Thank you very much for your comment which is really appreciated. It really has been a strange year, this year and a real challenge for some veg. My carrots and beetroot are growing ok but noticeably slower than usual. Compared to other growers I appear to have been very blessed with my tomatoes as I’ve had a really good harvest and continue to do so. I’m aware that blight is widespread this year which thankfully I’ve avoided on my tomatoes. Kind regards. Gary

Thank you very much for your comment Andrea and I’m really pleased you are finding my videos helpful. It really has been wet through July and August in the uk compared to previous years! It’s a little late to sow nasturtiums outside as they are sensitive to frost so it might be best to wait until spring. Kind regards. Gary
