It's more abstract, but I found it interesting that the grown adults that weren't related to Shelly in 'If You Tell,' stayed. The psychology of that, though they didn't delve directly into it, shook me. If it were fiction, we'd all be putting it down and rolling our eyes. "There's no way! *I* would walk away! I would escape and not get dragged back!" And yet... The daughters pursuing it was a highlight for me, too. They could have just gotten out and walked away. Changed their numbers and moved on. But especially the eldest really saw it through. As a child [of far less awful] abuse, I don't know what I would have done. The temptation to just go start my life over and not have to be part and parcel to her horrific abuse anymore, even in the retelling for prosecution... I don't know. Either way, I'm so glad they were cycle breakers and didn't turn out like Shelly did after being around her grandmother during her own childhood. You're killing my TBR. 😅 So many books that sound amazing!!
