Yesterday, November 4, I had the opportunity to take my wife to see Engelbert sing live one more time to celebrate our 42nd. anniversary. This great singer, despite having physical problems, has not lost anything of his great voice. Best of all, my wife was thrilled to see her favorite singer so close to her. Time shouldn't go through this kind of stars that make us happy, and at the same time make us dream awake. Let's keep listening to Mr. Engelbert Humperdinck so that he will never be forgotten by the new generations.

Who hasn't this happened to? Single, married, widowed people have had to go through the situation of loving someone who is out of their reach just because they fell under the influence of some beautiful eyes. The pain and desolation of not being able to tell that other person that we love him or her because the two parties may be married, or because of the rules of their workplace. What a desolation it is to feel that anguish when thinking about that loved one that our heart implodes, to immediately feel that one is suffocating, and end up with that blow to the stomach that is a symptom of impotence of not being able to shout "I love you". How hard it is to spend those sleepless nights thinking that despite the fact that the other person also loves us, we cannot shout it freely and never get close to each other. Whoever has felt this pain should know that they are not alone, because this situation can happen at any age.

I have a great personal story about Engelbert and this song.... Back in the 1990's, I received a phone call one night from the Doubletree Hotel in Santa Rosa, CA. Since I was a DJ and musician, they called to ask if I would do a favor and record a song for one of their guests staying at the hotel. They said I need to bring a turntable since the guest only had it on a vinyl record. Finally they said, "This is for Engelbert Humperdinck." I was given the phone number to Mr. Humperdinck's suite and called it. I spoke to Englebert's musical arranger and band leader to get the specifics. He told me that their band needed to learn the arrangement for "Love Me With All Your Heart". They had not played that song in a very long time, and they had to have it practiced and ready to perform for a Valentine's concert in Hawaii next week. We discussed which audio equipment components I needed to bring and I arrived a half hour later at their hotel suite. A handsome man answered the door and his long hair was hanging down and it sort of looked like a longish "mod" hairstyle like the Beatles. I asked him, "Is Mr. Humperdinck here? I have the turntable equipment to record songs." A huge smile lit up his face and I could tell by those famous eyes and mouth that this was Engelbert Humperdinck! I respectfully said, "Mr. Humperdinck, it is a pleasure to meet you and to help you out with the music." He instantly corrected me by saying, "I'm George! My friends just call me George!" I had never seen him in a behind the scenes , relaxing mood, with his hair "literally down". LOL! For the next 90 minutes, his keyboardist recorded some songs from 5 vinyl LP's that were original pressings from Engelbert's early career. Once the recordings got under way, Engelbert said, "I'm hungry...let's order something to eat!" He looked at the band leader and said, what do want to order? Then he turned to me and said, "Scott, have you eaten yet?" The truth was, I was starving, but did not want to impose on him. "Well, actually...I planned on going home to cook a dinner when I get through here." Engelbert said, "No, let me buy you a dinner. We'll get room service and we can eat it right here. Besides this might take awhile." So, 'George' picked up the room phone and ordered room service. When we sat down to dinner, Engelbert and I hogged the conversation on several topics. The band leader was anxious to finish the recordings, so he left the table after eating and that left Engelbert and I to finish dinner and talk. Out of the hundreds of famous recording artists and actors I booked or performed with in my career, I can say that Engelbert is at the very top TOP OF THE LIST - as a truly class act, all the way!!! (And DARN...if only I HAD BEEN BORN with HIS good looks!) An hour later, he walked me to the door thanked me. Then, as an afterthought, he said, "Would you like tickets to see my concert tomorrow night at the Luther Burbank Center?" Duh....yup!!! Arriving at the concert with a date the next night, I went to the "Will Call" ticket window and told them who I was. The lobby of this arena was jam packed with people. They had to check to see where my tickets were and told me it might take a few minutes. About 6 minutes later, a loud announcement filled the entire circular lobby filled with a couple thousand people. The woman announced, "Scott Ebright. Please come to the Will Call ticket window. Mr. Humperdinck has your tickets." When my date and I were seated, I was totally BLOWN AWAY to see that dead center, in the middle of the auditorium, just 5 rows back from the stage was a roped off section. There were 5 entire rows of 30 seats each, AND NO ONE ELSE was seated in this entire reserved section. My date looked at me and said, "Are you trying to impress me or what?" And we laughed (this was our first ever date). So we sat smack dab in the middle of that moat of empty chairs while the rest of the whole arena was jam packed with a sell -out crowd. We had a perfect view of stage center, and several times during his concert, Engelbert was staring right at myself and my date. I told my date to blow him a kiss and he grinned big and winked at her. I gave him a thumbs up and he smiled. What a great memory I have to reflect back on.... I have not ever been married and only wished I could have shared this experience with a wife I would be married to the rest of my life.

@karenmarie2298 жыл бұрын
I am 58 and was so much into the 70/80's music of that time, but was also busy working and raising my son so I did not have time to go to concerts. I totally forgot about him and knew nothing of him. One night I could not sleep a few months back and was listening to the oldies station and Englebert comes on singing and so I got up and turned on my lap top and started to research him. At that point I became totally in awe with him. He is so talented and handsome from early on to now. He could woo me forever. I think I have watched all of the videos on here. Today's music really sucks. Not much talent that can really sing and most are in it just for the money. You can tell watching his videos he really enjoys preforming. It is in his persona. This music will always be classic.
@Twinkle30678 жыл бұрын
karen marie I absolutely agree with you Karen.Like yourself I was raised on the 60's music & in my eyes it's a hard decade to follow. Engelbert has truly been gifted with unique vocals & songs that over flow with love,beauty & romance.This man is a truly first class legend just like so many musicians from his time, their music will always exist.Unlike many of today's lot, you have to search for the good stuff for there's so many so-called singers who just prance about & scream out nonsense lyrics,that being if they're not otherwise taking scrapings off yesterdays breakfast tables to make a fast buck!!....You get my drift? Hope you have many great days Karen as you continue to skip down memory lane. ~ 💐
