This brought to the foreground of my thoughts a memory that never ceased to disturb me, when I was in primary school in my homeland "Egypt" we had Arabic as one of if not the most essential subject, so we had this insane teacher that I don't know how was he qualified to be a teacher, whose son was with us in the the class. One time each of us was supposed to come out and be told to write a certain word on the board, each was given somewhat reasonable and not exceedingly challenging words to write, when the teacher's son turn came, his father chose a word that vastly exceeded our ability to write then, the kid hesitantly picked a piece of chalk and started to write and as soon as he made the first mistake, his father mercelessly grabbed his head and smashed his skull into the board, the kid dropped on the ground with his head bleeding, and his father was like GTFU before I beat the fu*k out of you. Such a gruesome sight that was, it made me hate every teacher and every father there was.

Hating every teacher and father because of that seems like a bizarre and excessive reaction to witnessing that violence

@@GregoryBSadler I should have been more precise and added "for a good few years afterwards" I know this sounded unfair, as I had this image changed for the better throughout my life. Beautiful videos tho keep the good work professor. 😄

That makes more sense. When I was in sixth grade, in drama class, three kids did a skit involving their former teacher who had slammed a kid’s head into the chalkboard, injuring him badly

To study nothing but computer science is a bad education, as one studies merely means...with no discussion of ends. To be instrumentally wealthy with no end(pun intended) is to ultimately be nihilistic. While a living must be earned, and this depends upon the judgments and connections with the social evaluations of ends of those around you, instrumental education and action can only give you means. The identification and analysis of ends is essential to having the possibility of success, as to shoot a gun without a target means no measure of either success or failure. To collect and have representatives debate on the ends of their lives and of the earth is found most deliberately in philosophy. One needs philosophy to be a success. Only the wise can be successful.

I expect that there are ways that computer science - like any field - can be taught that would bring in considerations of ends. Just doesn't happen all that often
