That saddle at the end reminded me of when I was a kid and watched The Lorax on TV. I remember you could only see his arms sticking out of this doorway or whatever it was and me being a kid, I got up and tried to look from the side to see the Lorax's face. You cannot imagine my disappointment when it didn't work!

Not nerdy at all. Experience shared. That apparently simple flip of your climb line looks incredibly easy. Taint! Years of muscle memory involved. How many times did the rope fall short? How many times did you overshoot and then fight it back only to throw again? It is cumulative force that takes energy. Just holding the saw at arm’s length is exhausting very quickly, every move you make is factored in to survive the job. Wish I could justify a 200T😮 😢. This one is a ripper😂. Great video Mr. M B.

6:52 This is exactly what I was wondering as I practiced DRT on a leaner and swung around it twice having to start all over again. I said if I climbed to the top SRT to set up the cambium saver for DRT why wouldn't I use SRT to do everything? Isn't that what tree climber Harry does? Why use two climbing methods?

The other thing to be aware of with a SRT base tie is if a limb hits your climbing line attached to the base it can yank you up the tree. Just something to be aware of. I prefer to tie to the target tree, but Ive been around guys that run thier rope to other trees and make that a thing that can happen. Rock on guys and sir.

As a UK climber I would say the majority of us climb the way you do in the sense of DRT and constantly changing anchor whilst spiking up the tree. I find this to be the most comfortable way to do it, you’ll get the SRT gurus saying otherwise. The trees in the UK don’t reach these kinda heights so SRT is usually not needed though. Enjoy watching your videos because the methodical and calm nature you tackle these jobs, which has helped me a lot as we have the same climbing style 👍🏼

One thing I don't like about SRT with base anchor is, constantly watching out for my line going down the tree. Or if the line is over any branches, when I remove that branch, it will introduce slack into the system. I do agree it's less physical work overall though. Pros/cons.

@danmcburney3247

If it's base tied it's already shot over a high limb... otherwise you would have to have someone on the ground untie it for you so you might as well do a canopy anchor and advance it like August is doing 😊 What he's talking about is shooting one high up in the tree so you always have a nice high tie in point from the beginning 👍

I agree, I found that if I can’t use my sling shot and fire a throw line up in the tree from the ground (usually because there is too much foilage) I will always climb to the top and set a line on the side of the tree I’m going to be cutting from and then repel down and start working. I have almost slipped out of my spike hold several times just using a flip line and it’s scary when you’re 50 feet up. That’s why ANSI recommends a choker around the tree so that can’t happen. Everyone cuts corners tho due to stubbornness, laziness or fatigue
