It's good to be skeptical. You might not need ID theft protection at all. Biggest thing is to freeze your credit at each of the 3 bureaus. If you are on a budget, you can probably get dark web monitoring for free from one of your banking institutions, like Chase. I totally understand your concern. A small team of us have actually used Aura ourselves for an extended period, so our opinion is based on real experience, not just sponsorship. I'm here because I've had both, and am currently waiting "up to 48 hours" for an issue I'm having with Aura's VPN. That seems unreasonably long (I can't get online atm). I switched because Norton's was constantly turning itself off. I appreciate your perspective.

I've used Aura's VPN and had issues as well, unfortunately. There are definitely improvements that could be made in that area. However, when it comes to identity theft protection, we’ve found Aura to be stronger compared to other services like Norton. Hopefully, they’ll continue to improve the VPN side while maintaining their edge in ID protection! Appreciate you watching and sharing your thoughts.

I find the sim-swapping protection appealing since so many hackers can get in by stealing your SIM card. Didn't hear that mentioned here.

Aura uses Plaid to link these accounts, which is encrypted and generally considered to be safe. That said, it's totally reasonable to not want to hand your information over to a third party. There's risk in doing so. There's also risk in not doing so, if the third party can live up to their marketing promise and help you detect fraud faster. The decision is yours to make - either way is valid.
