I think I understand The Terminator timeline now The series starts with Salvation, John then proceeds to send Kyle back in time causing the events of Terminator and T2. The events of Terminator 2 temporarily delayed Judgment Day, creating an alternative timeline (the future seen in Genisys), instead of the future seen in Salvation. The alternative Skynet sends the TX back in time to kill John and his wife leading to the events of Terminator 3. At the end of T3 John and his wife discover that Judgement day happened despite their attempt to stop it. After the events of T3, John takes his role as the leader of humanity in the future seen in Genisys, for the most part the future remains the same, although somehow John Connor grew up to become Jason Clarke instead of Christian Bale, and Kyle Reece became Jai Courtney instead of Michael Beihn. However once Kyle travels back in time to the events of the original Terminator he finds that his alternative future has led to the creation of an alternative past. It's surprisingly easy to wrap your head around once you watch this video :)

That was our main complaint. Michael Biehn was so perfect as a time raddled malnourished apocalypse soldier. What made the original great was how physically outmatched the humans were. This new Hollywood pretty boy is indistinguishable from a terminator.

This whole speech in the beginning is a total paradox. How can John remember stuff that didn't happen to him, like, he speaks of an original judgement day that is stopped, and then proceeds to speak about a second one that has changed from the previous, he can't remember the original version in the future that never happened.
