AURORA BOREALIS IN MAPLE RIDGE. MAY 10, 2024. MAPLE RIDGE, BC. 24 hours forecast of a major coronal outburst, best one in over 20 years, comes true. Best I have seen anywhere, in "little old Maple Ridge." This Coronal Mass Ejection produced spectacular results, this time. The previous night was supposed to be G3, so I went out, but it was a dud. I had almost given up this Friday night, checking it every half hour, with minimal activity. Then my daughter, who was 20 miles away, watching, called me at 10:54 pm, saying: "Go outside right now." I was able to grab the first major geomagnetic stream as it came over top of me. You can see this in the picture with the roof, clear sky on the left side, and a major aurora stream shooting down in the middle. I can't believe I caught the first beam of the Aurora Borealis, at least in Maple Ridge. The Aurora was so bright, it filled the whole sky, and light pollution had no effect on diminishing it. In fact, lights from mountain subdivisions themselves were overshadowed by the luminescence of the Aurora. Best that I have ever seen, both naked eye and on camera, even comparing to the Internet. FYI, I used the Samsung S23s, with the "Night Mode" setting on. Without this setting, the pictures were dark, but could be resuscitated by adjusting the exposure, lighting, and contrast in the Editor.
