*Meaning of Churchyard* "Churchyard is just like the concept of someone bigger using their power in the wrong way, that happens all the time in politics, with children, women. I wanted the songs to feel empowering - like at the end of Churchyard, she comes back to haunt him." - Aurora
@Brandon_Beaty
@Brandon_Beaty 5 жыл бұрын
That makes sense to me. When you consider the old churchyards of Europe, many of them are surrounded by graves and headstones. The lyrics seem to mean he's speaking of taking her life and in the end her spirit returns to haunt him. Towards the end it almost sounds like chanting to conjur her spirit back up. Very dark, but exceptionally emotional and powerful song that touches you deeply.

amazing bcse me coming from south america i can truly relate to the tribal choire...similar to children chants from Africa. Congo and Angola are the base of our music in Venezuela...and Brazil the countries that have more ratial mix indeed is us. I love this song amogst all bcse its like a cellebration of someone you..me...her...anyone who needs to suceed no matter how many battles come. Bravo Aurora...so young yet so mature...such wisdom...and amongst all so much power based in truth. The truth is powerfull and you sing truth....also "child's eyes" is worth an Emmy award. [Chorus] He told me I belong in a churchyard He told me I could walk away but I wouldn't get far Tell me how do people know what is hurt, what is love? He told me I belong in a churchyard [Verse 2] Hate followed him gently Planted seeds in his heart Roots tearing the love in him Apart... October 24th marked the 8th year since my daughter's dad tried tried to murder me. He probably would have if my (then 5 year old) son hadn't walked into the room where I was being strangled, and held captive with a butcher knife pushed against my throat. (I still have the scars.) My daughter was only 3 at the time, and fast asleep in her bed, and my son was having a bath. I like to think it was our intuitive bond that led him to me, because normally he would have called for me to help him get out, and he hadn't even finished yet. I honestly believe that his naked little entrance saved my life, like a cherub sent from heaven. Distracted, the monster let up his grip just enough that I was able to slide down to the floor. I remember running; still bent over, scooping up my son, and trying to take shelter in the bathroom. My daughter's dad continued to try to get at us for the rest of the night, breaking doors, smashing walls, hiding the phones & car keys, and even blocking the exits to the house. Fortunately my little girl slept through it all, and doesn't remember any of it, my son however, remembers it all. I was threatened, and bullied for months after, and even prior to that. I was always told that if I filed charges, or tried to leave "there would be consequences." He would say that he was going to take my daughter away. He also usually threatened to "take off my head", and used to lay his shot gun where I slept as a reminder of my "consequences." He used to hold that same shot gun to my forehead, and tell me that the world be better off I were dead. He would also pin me facedown on the ground, police style; with my arms bent upward toward my collarbones, and put his knee in the middle of my spine until I couldn't breathe.. among many other violent things. Finally after months of living like this, I finally found courage, called the police, filed charges, got a 4 year restraining order, moved out, (had to couch surf for a while), and sought counseling for my children, as well as myself. What happened to him? He got a slap on the wrist, paid a fine, was put on probation for 6 months, and had to go to a few anger management classes. That's it, but I guess I'm still breathing. To this day, he continues to have joint custody of our daughter, (who's now 11) which I tried to fight, and lost miserably. She hates being over there, and still cries when it's time to leave. Breaks my heart every single time. I still don't think it's fair that someone like him, capable of these things is free to do as he pleases. He's since had another daughter, (who's now 4), with someone who he is also not with. He treats women, his daughters, and his dogs like possessions, does not take responsibility, and has no respect for them. #standuptodomesticviolence

The theme of “Churchyard” is very powerful. It begins with a wave of Gregorian harmonies. Why they sound so “church-like” is because these types of harmonies were created by monks in monasteries thousands of years ago, where many origins of music (like scales) come from. Also, she uses a lot of echoing effect and layers her voice to sound like a choir, with the deeper male choir flooding in behind like in “It Happened Quiet”. The beat is very tribal sounding, and the cello and violins surround it like an orchestra to blend with Aurora’s soft, soprano voice. Altogether this song is a blissful masterpiece that never gets old.

2:35 I love how she says something here and I NEVER realized...I never knew what she actually says here, however, besides being enigmatic, Aurora has beautiful verses in her mind to explain something as painful as the song theme, we love you aurora and I love how you can make this, the way to describe things that really need to be told ❤

This song it's perfection in composition, economy of lyrics, rhythmic development, arrangement, orchestration, mixing. It says everything the listener needs in all these topics. Not a word and not a note more than necessary. I absolutely love this composition style and i'll do everything to study Aurora discography to make this concept mine. Straight to the point.

LYRICS: [Intro] He told me I belong in a churchyard He told me I could walk away but I wouldn't get far Tell me how do people know what is life, what is love? He told me I belong in a churchyard [Verse 1] Words pointy like arrows Wounds no one can see He closed all the windows As his anger broke free I will not remember You as somebody nice Please will you remember me And cry? [Chorus] He told me I belong in a churchyard He told me I could walk away but I wouldn't get far Tell me how do people know what is hurt, what is love? He told me I belong in a churchyard [Verse 2] Hate followed him gently Planted seeds in his heart Roots tearing the love in him Apart... [Chorus] He told me I belong in a churchyard He told me I could walk away but I wouldn't get far Tell me how do people know what is hurt, what is love? He told me I belong in a churchyard
