There were more ships named "Wappen von Hamburg" that all have those beautiful lines, one of which I was on multiple times going to Helgoland when I was a young boy. Unfortunately that one got scrapped end of 2010 after the last owner was unable to fix it and make it seaworthy. There is a video of the scrapping here on youtube, if you are brave enough to watch something that nice get chewed up.... I really hope this "white swan" will make it, it is the last one that remains.

@@jcommstudios ah well I hope it picks up speed again becuase I do believe that this ship is not only the last German post war ship but the last ship of its kind as a whole, I say this because there are not alot of ocean liners in preservation and a few that were saved ended up being scrapped later due to varying factors, I hope and pray that will not be the case for this ship

The owner talks about "budget". Thats a red flag. If you are doing this kind of work and have to rely on a "budget". This project will never be finished because they will never be able to fund it. The owner also talks about a "historical cruiseship" but wait... she is not historical and she is not a cruiseship. She was used in the cruiseindustry for a while but that´s another thing than calling her a cruiseship. OK, she is old but not historical. End of that story! I love ships and I love people who love ships but this is a strange goose. Knowing something about restoration I can tell you that this will not end like you want it to end. This might be a project driven by love for the ship and for her restoration but please think it thru. Can you imagine the amount of money needed to operate her; fuel, insurance, Coast Guard certificates, crew and so on... And then I am talking about her life fully restored. Nope, this project maybe honestly performed but it will surely be ended in a big, big realitycheck. Remember my lines on the D-Day !
@jcommstudios2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the input. Work is proceeding so budget be dammed. As far as the ship itself goes it was the first ship Germany was allowed to build after world war 2 so she certainly is historical in that sense. It was definitely a cruise ship not only owned and used by the Germans but changed hands numerous times. She was used in the Greek Isles and then later in Alaska. She was also the ship you see in Russia with love. If you click the link under the video ( www.museumships.us/87-aurora-restoration-project ) you will get a better understanding of how and what was involved. All of the info you have stated has been and still is being addressed. Chris is committed to the ship and it will be done reality check or not. Have a nice day!

@jcommstudios Thanx for your reply. Well let me say this. If Mr Willson can pull this off, I would recommend him to be the project manager of the restoration of the UNITED STATES. I do see some parallell lines in these two projects. Still, let´s hope for the best.
