You guys have definitely become the go-to channel for 3D printer reviews. But instead of only measuring print quality by comparing printers based on their top recommended speed, I'd love to see a comparison using a standardized print speed. For example, what would a lama print from the top 10 printers look like if they all printed at 450m/s?

For problems with z-offset: The termistor of the heat bed is on the underside of the bed. So the moment the thermistor sensors final temperature reached, the upper surface of the bed has not reached final temperature jet. After the printbed is signaled to have reached the final temperature, always wait 5 to 20 minutes (depending on the printer and used temperatures), so the bed´s deformation after heating has stopped. Than you start the ABL process. Preheating the bed, than waiting, has always improved my first layer. Sadly, many reviews tell how fast the printer heats up and start the print. An extra 10 or 20 minutes waiting time would result in bad reviews... On my Qidi X-Max 3 there is even a sticker telling to preheat and give time. However, in the slicer profiles there is no wait 5 (or more) minutes waiting time. Just add a line in the gcode after bed heating to wait - and first layer improves.

Mine was the opposite and had a offset that was smearing every layer and pulling prints off the bed regardless of the time it was heated, I troubleshot for over an hour so heat wasn't the reason and the only thing that helped was a permanent 0.05 z-axis offset profile. After that its been a workhorse, the only other thing i changed was using bed adhesive as it didn't really have the holding power without it for any small prints or tree supports.

There is an Orca Slicer based Anycubic Slicer that is in beta, it seems to be at least v2.0 of Orca. I did notice, however, that you can NOT adjust the flushing volumes between filaments. Anycubic really needs to change their firmware to allow adjustment of flush between different colors to minimize waste, the print currently allows you to only adjust a global flush volume directly from the printer screen.

All AnyCubic needs to make now, is a fast coreXY printer that the Ace Pro system works with.. and Bambu Lab doesn't have anything to "sell" that isn't just a higher priced version of what most other brands can do now. What is Bambu Lab going to do next to stand out? Reliable and fast belt-printer with multi-filament? Multi-resin printer for "multi-color" resin? SLS for consumer-grade that doesn't break the bank?
@gman9543
@gman9543 Ай бұрын
I question the long-term reliability though. My experience with Anycubic is that they generally print pretty well out of the box, but then start having problems after a few spools of filament have been run through. This has been consistent with their Mega i3, and Pro Max v2. Printed great out of the box, but then ended up with extruder and hotend clogging issues that pretty much killed any future productivity.

Thank you, this is what a lot of people mix up, some people are in the hobby for the printer, some are in it for the CAD and model design so the printer needs to just print. I think we need to differentiate it as “3D printers” vs “3D printing” there’s lots of overlap of course, but while I started with a reprap, voron, and lulzbot person, I’m now a Bambu user because I design cad for a living and don’t have time anymore to fix the printer. I just need it to work.

The software, Z offset inconsistency, and surface quality were one of the reasons I quit using my Kobra 2 and it looks like that is still like a factor here. All of these machines aren't perfect and require some form of occasional adjustment, but I felt like the Kobra series fought me the most in that area. I think they have a brilliant design team, but I'll continue to avoid their products until they work out the kinks or allow easier tweaking of their hardware/software.

One question, If I print in say Filament 2 (white for me) the print completes, and i start another print using the same Filament 2 (white) it still does a large purge before the print, is this needed? can it be turned off? Surly the printer knows the last filament number. So if it was 2, it wouldn't need to purge, but if it was different from the last it does. Seems wasteful.

I have an MK3S and a Prusa XL, but with a single extruder. At least at this moment, I do not really print multicolored prints that often, but knowing how much filament and time you can save by using multiple toolheads is incredible. Yes, it is a very expensive machine with many flaws, but for multicolor prints, it is barely unbeatable. Everyone needs to do the math to justify the cost of a machine 🙂 I would only use two toolheads, so an upgrade may be incoming 🙂

On the clearance test, the walls look terrible. All those little ridges and bumps on each layer. Looks like the extrusion is not very consistent and almost looks like the filament was really wet. Also, the ghosting is pretty heavy duty. Finally would love to see you do your sound test trying to isolate some of the resident frequencies of everything around. It seems a good portion of the sound may be coming from your table and when you set it on top of things, etc. You can use something like sorbothane and do the calculations to cut the right size pads and do the sound test on something like a concrete floor. so you’re not measuring the resonating frequencies of the cabinet or stand. Also, there should be some sound reflecting material and absorbing material so that you’re also not measuring the reflected sounds But you do the same every single time I don’t think it matters that much, but it would be nice to dial in some of the testing a little more sophisticated
