Thank you for this video. We just got our first van and all the salesman told us was that he didn’t like Truma. He left our switch on 60 degrees and said the power switch beside it was for the water pump and the red light meant it was on. He also told us that the water tank was our grey water tank. So basically we have had to work most of the functions of our van by ourselves. Thank goodness for a friend who is an experienced camper and was able to help initially but your explanation here was invaluable for us newbies!

This is the easiest clip I’ve seen to understand the system, I’m still confused how to fill up the Truma tank with water when it’s empty.

Thanks for your feedback and question. Between minutes 2:30 - 3:00 I explain how to make sure it is full. In summary, either hook up to mains water or turn your water pump on if you are not connected to mains, then operate the valve as I do in the video to bleed out all the air. Once you see a bubble free stream of water exiting the water heater, you have filled the system.

Great video mate. I also watched the other hot water video as it was extremely helpful. I do have a few questions: 1: if I’m at a caravan park and the truma switch is in the middle position. It won’t use the gas at all? Would that be correct? 2: should I empty the hot water system while travelling? Or, is it safe to keep water in the unit? 3: should you switch off the unit when not using? Or, is it safe to keep on? Last one, mate: does the hot water unit automatically fill up with water when I turn on the pump while off grid. Or, connect to mains while at caravan park? I appreciate you taking the time to create those videos.

Hi Alek, nice to hear that the videos have been helpful to you, if you are doing your own review, please consider crediting our original videos in your comments 🙂 I'll copy and paste your original questions for clarity of answers; 1: if I’m at a caravan park and the truma switch is in the middle position. It won’t use the gas at all? Would that be correct? CORRECT - the rocker switch remains in the centre position if you wish to heat via power rather than gas. Note, if you are plugged into power and also use the rocker switch, then you will be heating with both gas and the electric element. Handy for rapid heating when you first arrive at camp, but turn the gas rocker switch off (middle position) once the water is up to temperature if you wish to conserve gas. 2: should I empty the hot water system while travelling? Or, is it safe to keep water in the unit? SAFE - you can keep the hot water system full while traveling but definitely empty it if you live in a climate that is likely to freeze the water when in storage. I also prefer to empty the unit when in storage so the water does not stagnate, but when we are on the road travelling from place to place, we do not empty the system between campgrounds. 3: should you switch off the unit when not using? Or, is it safe to keep on? DEPENDS - this depends on what you mean by "not using". If you are in storage and not using, then Turn it off. If you are camping and want hot water available at any time, then leave it on. Right now, we are living in our van full time and off grid, We have found that we save gas if we turn it off when not required and it only takes 15 minutes to heat up for a shower or to wash dishes, so in the interest of gas savings, we have only been turning it on when needed and turning it off at other times. 4: Last one, mate: does the hot water unit automatically fill up with water when I turn on the pump while off grid. Or, connect to mains while at caravan park? NO - if the system has air in it then you MUST bleed that out as shown in our video. It is not a self bleeding system. If you keep it full between moves and don't allow it to drain, then you can turn your pump on at the next stop and use it without bleeding, but if you haven't used it for a while or you have turned a tap on and drained water without having the pump on or water pressure attached, then it is a good idea to pop the bleed valve and make sure you don't have any air in the boiler tank. Safe travels Craig & Anett

In my just purchased CX2 I found the power cord without a plug or not connected to a switch. I queried Star Vision. Their reply " The Truma is gas only". The discussion is ongoing
@AusCamping Жыл бұрын
Hi Dave, I do see on their website that for the CX2, they only specify gas for the hot water. I wonder if it is not possible for them to cable a 240V outlet to the location or maybe some other safety reason due to the location and the Australian regulations. Have a chat to Kyle at Head Office, if there’s a reason why it’s like that then I’m confident that he would tell you and if not, then he should be able to organise to get it fixed.

@@AusCamping they might be using a (cheaper) system which is designed for 110VAC.
@AusCamping Жыл бұрын
A possibility, although they build them all in the same factory so it would seem strange that they would use a different water heater in only one model 🤔
@DavidNielsen-um8yf Жыл бұрын
Craig, did you install the HWS or was it installed by StarVision?
@AusCamping Жыл бұрын
Hi David, it was factory installed. The Truma UltraRapid is actually a very good and reliable unit which is factory installed in most of the StarVision hybrid models

Does the system have to be full of water to use gas?
@AusCamping Жыл бұрын
It should always be full of water before heating but generally it will stay full between trips unless you are draining it for safety in cold climates where damage might occur as a result of water freezing in the pipes
