I will never understand why people try so hard to sound plain American when its the most boring accent there is (no offense, Americans, its just something we hear all the time in media). Having an accent makes you sound 10x more charming.

It's not that they try to, is that most media people listen to is American accent. So they slowly adopt it. Same way if an american spent a lot of time in a different country their accent will slowly go away. Which also, define plain american lol. Because there's A LOT of american accents. It's like saying "european accent" or even British Accent since there's a difference between someone from the north vs the south.
