Our football season is just starting up. My brother and I both play with a bunch of friends in an imaginary league. Don't know if yall down there play such a game. You draft your team from all the players in the beginning of the year and you manage your team as the games are played based on their statistics. If someone get hurt you have to get another player. It's incredibly complicated to play and winning is talent plus a lot of luck. I have a nephew who wins a great deal because he basically lives the game all year long. I break even BUT enjoy the hell out of it because I don't have to support just one team. ( my long time favorite team, Washington Redskins, has had tremendous turmoil and has the worst owner in the league. So much so that I basically gave up on them more than ten years ago. This hurt after supporting a team for many decades. So without playing fantasy leagues, I would have given up on football like I have baseball - the game I really loved from childhood.) Anyway, I mention the fantasy leagues cause if they have them downunder, it's a great way to follow the sport even if your favorite team really sucks. Although I used to win a lot of money betting under dog college teams - stupid guys would bet on their favorite even when it made no sense. Especially in college games. Again I have no idea if any of this translates to Australian life. But there are gamblers everywhere and there is always a winning play for the smart bettor. I have bet football, baseball, racing, boxing, dogs, horses and even jai li (a Cuban game played in South Florida). Basically if you can bet on it. I suspect the same is true for you too.
