People have asked about my harvests, so here's a January Summer tour. Also a brief look at my new seed storage and how I'll be using it.
I'm seeing new growth on the orange trees, macadamia and banana trees.
Harvesting grapes, blackberries, strawberries, herbs and more.
The avocado tree needs moving, banana pups needs splitting and potting and peaches, pears and apples are all ripening in the orchard.
I hope you enjoy this Aussie Food Forest 2024 update. New Seed Storage video.

G'day. Thanks so much and I have been banging on the metal post on the back fence a couple of times a day, just to let the big lizards and anything else know that I am out there. Myself and the dog have spotted something big in the undergrowth a few times in recent months. I've been wanting one of those kits for a while and very happy to finally get one. I hope all is well and thanks as always, Daz.

G'day! Thanks so much. Yes, I'm going to do a video on the grapes as it's been a real pleasure and I've enjoyed the journey. They are surprisingly easy to grow too. Aw, it would have been nice to harvest the old fruit, but look where you are now! So awesome. Yes, you should pull that finger out. 😜 That's what happened with the grapes actually... I kept on saying to my wife that I want to grow them again and it would have been a 10 year gap until I finally did and look at them now! Thanks as always and take care. Daz.

G'day Heather. We've had some hot ones this Summer and I would have liked people in the USA to send some snow over. 😁 There have been some heavy rains though and if flooding the garage and chicken coops was not bad enough, the humidity was just the worst. Crazy watching the yard flood, but have the cooling on and sweating while watching it. You keep warm and take care. Daz.

G’day Daz, your gardens are thriving so beautiful and bountifully this year, which is wonderful to see. I’ve not put much into my gardens this year. Was away too much to get things started and cared for in time. I’ve just allowed myself to take a break this season. Im looking forward to planting winter crops when it’s much more pleasant to be put there. 🙂

G'day Sandra. I've actually not been out much at all in the grand scheme of things and this shows with the lack of veggies growing. My son has thankfully been helping me to get what you see out there going. I'm keen to really ramp up the veggies in Winter though and try to get a bit happening under cover too. I hope all is well and you are not getting flooded with all the heavy rain we have been getting. Thanks as always and take care. Daz.

Thanks Daz the yard looks amazing mate, I've got a pink lady apple, it's only about 3-4yrs old in a huge pot, do I need another apple to go with it to get fruit. I love my succulents, seriously, they give me so much joy and inspiration along with my other plants in my fernary, I'll send some pics to you, it's still a work in progress, I do it as I can with my injuries but my plants inspire my to do something no matter how little every day. Unfortunately my plants in the yard, some are getting burnt leaves of leaf tips because of the belting down sun. Between the sun and the flogging down rain we can't win mate. I've also got hassles with rats, a bloke over from me has racing pigeons, so that answers that. All the best to you and your family from me and mine. Seeya Rob

Hi Daz! Your gardens look great! I have been using those same photo storage boxes to save my seeds for years. I basically have my seeds color coded by type. I thought I was creative when I bought my first box but then in the past couple of years I have seen many KZbinrs also use them except they all use the clear ones. You are the first person that I have seen that has the colored ones like mine. I have three boxes. Perhaps I have too many seeds! LOL Have a good day!

@MyAussieGardenKitchen 8 ай бұрын
G'day Annette. A bay tree blooming? No not at all. I must look it up. I let celery go to seed every year and I walk around with some after collecting seed (great in salad and breads) and I shake it around, just because I like the randomness of where it pops up. I don't have to sow them too as they pop up when ready and I move them where it's better for them to grow. 😁 You channel is one I chill out to on the TV when I go to sleep at night (waiting for meds to kick in) and I can't believe the temps you deal with in Winter. -42c I think it was in your video. @MyAussieGardenKitchen

G'day. Propagating those blackberries has been such a satisfying and rewarding experience. The bird netting is a basic variety found at a lot of hardware stores and garden stores. Some was from Ebay, as well as stores as I essentially chased what was cheapest at the time, but also of the requirements required by law here. Very pleased with how it has all turned out. Dogs tails are like some sort of medieval weapon 😂 I like your cross pollination plan👌🏽 I also have an avocado plant on the go, I've brought it in the house as it is sensitive, it was -5 the other night 😮 I never knew about Manuka trees, that would be excellent if you got bees, a blessing to them and your garden. Thanks for the update, green is my favourite colour. Take care Tony

G'day Tony. That's great about the eggs. I like to have the kids drop off a dozen to the elderly couple next door from time to time. We'll get a bucket of oranges or a bowl of cherry tomatoes left at the door in return from time to time. That's great about the avocado mate. It can get to minus 4c here when the heavy frosts come, but the tree seems to come out ok with a few split open chicken feed bags thrown over the top. You guys had a serious dump of rain a couple of weeks ago mate. That was a LOT of water on the roads and yards. I heard you saying that it might be a maintenance issue too. Stay dry and warm mate. G'day Tammy. I don't know what is going on with the celery. Everything is looking lush in your food forest. Can you tell me why you have a ping pong ball in the hen’s nesting box? Also, do you know what variety your strawberries are by chance? Mine only crop in spring and despite having thriving plants with lots of runners (I trim back) I’d like more fruit.
@MyAussieGardenKitchen
@MyAussieGardenKitchen 8 ай бұрын
G'day Kimberly! Nice one spotting the ball. 😁 I use them to encourage new layers to lay in a particular box or boxes. This ball has been left behind from last year, when the girls were laying on the shelf that now has the 2 nesting boxes. The ball went in when the nesting boxes were new, as the girls refused to go into the for the first few weeks. I'm not sure what larger varieties of strawberries I have, as I collected seed from large strawberries from a farmer's market years ago and just continued replanting runners from those. I do know I have some "Alpine" strawberries in there as I was gifted a packed of seeds, but they are a small strawberry and I prefer the others. I also have Strasberry and Pineberry varieties of strawberries, they were initially gifted as runners. They need standard strawberries planted with them to produce the fruit. I hope that helps in some way and feel free to get in touch again. Good luck, Daz.

I feel your pain. I have a Labrador and she's brought a tear to my eye on more than one occasion. Not even an apology. What makes it worse is that she thinks that me rolling on the ground in agony looks like a fun game and decides to jump on me. Anyhow, how do you keep your strawberries from being eaten by everything but you. At first I thought it was the birds so I netted them. Then ants and the latest thief I caught in the torchlight was a cockroach. I've thrown some diamtacious earth down now but there's got to be a better way surely.
@MyAussieGardenKitchen
@MyAussieGardenKitchen 8 ай бұрын
G'day. 😂 I still have tears in my eyes from laughter at your Lab. They are just to adorable to get in trouble. 😁 My biggest issue with the strawberries would be slugs and block millipedes. Best thing I do is pick them at 3/4 ripening, maybe risk it a little more and then put them in a bowl in the fridge with cling wrap. They ripen up within a couple of days and I save so many from the pests this way. I try to keep it all organic out there and this method has worked well. The rare one that starts to get eaten, goes to the chooks, usually with the pest attached. Good luck and I hope this helps. Daz.

@@MyAussieGardenKitchen At least one of us got a laugh😂😂. Same here, all organic. It's hard work sometimes. I'll try picking them a bit earlier. So at the risk of sounding like a bit of a dill…with your berries all netted like that how do the bees get in to pollinate?
@MyAussieGardenKitchen
@MyAussieGardenKitchen 8 ай бұрын
G'day. Great question! I'll leave the netting opened up until ripening really starts to take place and close up at the last minute and keep it that way for this whole season. I have it held down with bricks at one end and I lift it to get in and out. I have seen though, that the bees and native bees still go through the holes. They land on the tight net crawl in the hole and fly around. Same on the way out. But, keeping the net open til ripening starts, gives them the best access for sure. I hope this helps and thanks so much for watching. Feel free to get in touch again. Daz.
