G'Day, from the south coast NSW. I'm an aged pensioner (76) and a few dollars just doesn't go anywhere. What they are offering is a cup of coffee/tea while the local Government is raising rates, water charges and electricity/gas is going up to such a height that you can't afford to brew a cuppa at home let alone "buy" a coffee/tea from a shop. I have my vegie gardens and my fruit trees to help out, but many don't have this luxury... I'm sick and tired of being treated as though I should be thrown on the scrap heap in my own country just because I have, according to the government, reached my use-by date... The problem is that no matter who wins an election, the same bunch of bureaucrats are working behind the scenes, and they have no idea what it is like to live in the real world.... OK! Rant over...

Good rant, well said!

It's never free money, it's taxpayer's money. "Government is not a solution to our problem, government is the problem. ... Government does not solve problems; it subsidises them. Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. If it stops moving, subsidise it. ... The problem is not that people are taxed too little, the problem is that government spends too much." ~ Ronald Reagan

For many, the increase is going to be $5.80 a FORTNIGHT. Seriously. What difference is that going to make? Buy an extra loaf of overpriced bread for the fortnight? And the welfare minister reckons they're doing an awesome job and we have a strong and supportive welfare system. I think she's talking about her home planet. Can't be Oz, because the system here has been a mess for ages. I was getting a good run with loyalty points for a while there, but now I'm struggling to accumulate them in a timely manner. I wonder if part of it is the change I've made in shopping. I don't buy the junk that has extra points attached, I buy healthier choices now which are ridiculously priced. I feel like we're being penalized for trying to be healthy. I know the better choices are making a huge difference in my life, and our kids are doing better, too. I'm trying to establish our veg growing, but here in west oz it's getting nuclear hot. We're inland, and it's much hotter. Still hoping and praying for miracles, God is present in our lives. He knows the way.❤❤❤

Those on unemployment benefits, are 2-3 steps above the most disadvantaged & poorest in their country. They are; 1 step above those living in a car solely relying on sporadic casual work. 2 steps above those who have no source of income or revenue, but are humbly looked after by family, friends or strangers who don't receive any Gov't assistance for doing what they do. 3 steps above the homeless, who generally have no layer of protection, from hunger, thirst, the cold, sexual abuse or even physical attack. Do you prefer Corporate welfare, Diesel fuel subsidies,Super tax breaks, Negative gearing? Also 'Apparently' we are not the most highly taxed nation in the world our average income tax rate is 30% compared to the OECD av. of 34%. @Amateur_Pianist_472Ай бұрын
@ natural resources should absolutely be collectively owned. As for productivity, the government can build social housing, the issue is shortage of materials and workers, same with private. Food waste can be prevented by buying rejected food or charities can come to farms to pick excess fruit and veg. Also make food waste illegal for grocery stores. Nothing wrong with government spending, it just needs to come with increased resources, or it causes inflation.
