Aussie Sapphire Adventure Day One

We jumped the ditch to visit family for my 60th birthday on the back of a business trip, while we were over in OZ it was perfect timing to take in a gem and mineral show that had organised field trips put on by the hosting Glen Innes Gem and Mineral Club.
It is our first time fossicking for sapphires so schooled up on how-to videos prior to heading out, but no need as the club Pres took time out to show us how to sieve for the highly sought-after coloured stones.
A day of hard work producing minimal results but that's how it is, probably digging in the wrong place as others walked away with decent reward for their efforts.
Did we enjoy it? YES, we did, very much so and with another day booked in another location, excitement is a real emotion.

Titanium and Black spinel are the other two gems found in that area. There's plenty of Zircon in that screen too.

I'm glad I pulled them out as well since they looked different and was pleasantly surprised to be told what they were.
