This city looks very well planned out. It looks more organized than most. Plus the huge walkways was a smart idea so it's not so crowded.
@davidparris71675 ай бұрын
Unlike other Australian cities, Sydney the first city to be founded in 1788, was never planned in the sense of an orderly grid pattern but just evolved into mainly narrow streets with the only true boulevards being Broadway running into upper George St which is now used solely by a new light rail system and William St, an off shoot of George St which runs up to Kings Cross and a hangout for strip joints, prostitutes, eateries, restaurants, pubs, hotels and theatres.To overcome the narrowness of the streets most are one way to aid traffic flow. The first skyscraper, the AMP building, adjacent to Circular Quay where all the ferries leave was not built until 1960. Up to that time there was a height limit of 4-5 stories consisting of fine sandstone and granite constructions built mainly in the 19th century, with some of the best examples to be found in Martin Place. I grew up in the 1940's, 50's and 60's in Sydney and whenever I return there are a lot of memories and I marvel how wonderful this city is, especially the unchangeable harbour, a true wonder of the world.

Wherever you go in Australia, be it small village, city or in nature people take pride in their surroundings and the discarding of even the smallest piece of litter that is not placed in a bin or a designated collection point for larger items is frowned upon. Also, all town, suburban and city streets are routinely swept by mechanised sweepers.

I was in Sydney this week and walked from Circular Quay along George Street until I reached China Town on Sunday night. Being a Melbournian for almost 30 years I like Sydney's train that run between the airport to the city centre, it is convenient and also cheap (about $20), only takes about 15 minutes. The transport system is Sydney is a bit different to Melbourne there is no maximum cap for you daily spending on public transport, a trip on ferries from Darling Harbor to Circular Quay cost me $7.70 and from Circular Quay to city centre (Town Hall) cost me $3.30 on a one way trip ( if my calculation is correct), in Melbourne the public transport fare is capped under $10 and $7.20 for the weekend. But I enjoyed my trip on the ferries, it allows you to travel to various parts of Sydney
