Building stuff from scratch is why this channel is above and beyond 4wd24/7. It’s not a bunch of high dollar, bolt on mods. It’s left over ply, some sweat, and ingenuity. This is the kind of stuff the world needs, how to do things well without breaking the bank. I’m impressed! So so impressed. I wish I had of done the marine carpet idea, when I did my first box, 10 years ago! I can’t wait for the second version of this that will come out in a few years, when you’ve bought a metal break, and you do the same thing in aluminum! 10/10!!

I could say what an amazing job of the storage but that would be boasting about myself too. I did a similar setup in my old NM Pajero. 3 drawers and fridge slide in the back and false floor with storage and dog seat in the middle row, all carpeted and fully removable. You have the same idea as me to make it removable using the existing anchor points. Love the emuwings too. Wish they had them for my Grand Cherokee. Great to see you back and looking forward to more mods a trips. Keeping it real.

You're back! & okay!! I wake up every Sunday morning, anticipating a new Aussie Arvos video to watch, while I enjoy my Sunday morning mug of Joe. Was wondering if you all were dealing with a tragedy in the family or something. I have also been holding off buying gullwings for my 80s as I wanted a factory look glass one. Great stuff. I use square aluminium tube and much lighter ply as it cuts the weight down a lot. May?? need extra supports but remember your not carrying heavy waits in there or on top. There are also better products to use rather than carpet. Look at what auto trimmers use like what gets use for roof linings. Lighter, easier to fit with stretch, and looks better. It isn't as hard wearing but for what you have built is would be good. Instead of using nails to hold the carpet, look at a staple gun being hand held or the air tool. Bang bang bang and your done and easier to remove if needeed. Love what your doing.

You and I have the same principles when it comes to modifying our 80 Series. Any major changes must be reversible. And I too like to keep the factory look of the 80 for as much as possible. That's why I haven't gone and changed the headlights to a more modern LED type that I see a lot of. I simply replaced the bulb to an appropriate LED type and kept the factory look headlights. You guys continue to make great DIY videos that are both informative and captivating to watch. Fantastic upgrades to the 80. The drawers definitely looked like a bought one. 👍
@AussieArvos Жыл бұрын
Thanks Fatman! Yeah having it all reversible just makes me sleep better at night! i mean one day i might want to change it all up, or a better solution might be available. It gives me the chills drilling into dashes and such hahah, and yeah i agree i think the 80 series look will be timeless in itself, many of the parts of the vehicle have lasted the 32 years of its life, no need to change them !

G'day guys, well done, just food for thought. I done similar to my GU a couple years ago, and am now this week actually changing, due to a long trip me and the missus done a few weeks ago, the issue was, not allowing the passenger seat to recline enough for the missus to have a nap or just veg out, when I first made it, I got her to try it out and she loved it. But after a while things change, so just maybe food for thought. I used KMart 7 dollar plastic draws as inserts that worked a real treat. And actually allows to pack clothing enough for long hauls without packing too much. It forces you to be mindful on how much you take. I have a pick but looks like I can't upload, shame oh well

Was really taken by the storage until you sat in the vehicle, man oh man it gave the impression it's so closed in. Then you put the kings pockets up and that seemed to open the space up again, weird ha. So want gull wings in my GU but can't find anyone manufacturering them to suit late model GU with rear A/C unit. If your viewers know of a supplier I'd be super impressed to hear about them. Cruiser company intend to do them, but not yet. Its obvious you enjoyed your handywork, congrats Pat.
@AussieArvos Жыл бұрын
Thanks Ian! Yeah it's hard to tell on camera but there is a bit of room behind the seats which is good! Yeah that's annoying , emu wing don't make a version?

@@AussieArvos Good on you Pat. Your response prompted me to go to EmuWing site again and it appears they are now doing a rear air con. Gull Wing to suit GU's. Waiting to hear back from them to confirm, Wealie.
@ianweal3081 Жыл бұрын
@@AussieArvos Can confirm for anyone following this that as of now (2023), Emu Wing have developed a rear passenger side rear window for GU Patrol with rear A/C. Only remaining issue, once original windows removed, you've lost you radio antennas as well, both rear windows feature inbuilt antennas. Guessing I'll be purchasing another project, haha. Wealie.

Nice video mate, your 80 is very similar to mine. I always like seeing what other blokes are doing to theirs. One thing though, your overweight. When I did my lap a few years ago, I had a fair few mechanical issues, and weight and stress where a big factor. I cracked the rear diff tube where it meats the pumpkin, luckily I found it on my daily checks. Just remember these cruisers are getting older and fatigue is kicking in.

That looks mint as, good stuff. I always make stuff reversible too. It's probably not an issue but one thing I think is always good to have when you loose the ability to use your rear view mirror is a digital one that comes with a camera to mount on the back. I drive a Hilux ute with a fully enclosed tool box (cant see anything with that box) and got a digital rearview mirror for when I tow a trailer, yeah you can just use your side mirror but having that rear vision back makes all the difference
