Yes, I've always found the use of filtering and naming is optimal to takeoffs. Thanks for the video.

This technique can also be quite usefull for environmental performance analysis calculations, where energy contents of the building material get a specific score (a bit like a carbon emissions footprint score). In the Netherlands this is now mandatory for new building permits and the score has to stay below a certain value, i.e. using a lot of concrete is discouraged.

Yep I use this technique often, and am also exploring it for embodied carbon rates times quantities. The challenge is typically having people measure things accurately enough for takeoff in my experience.

Hi! I am trying to take off the concrete quantity for a multilayered wall. using the "GetParameterValueByName" gives the overall m3 value of the entire wall for the concrete. How could I individually extract the quantity for each layer?

Check out genius loci package which contains python based nodes that deal with sublayers.

Great work man, I have a question, what would be the difference between Sheetlink and Bim link?
@AussieBIMGuru
@AussieBIMGuru 2 жыл бұрын
BIM Link is made by a software firm called Ideate. Whilst it is quite expensive for the average user, it's used by many large firms and has a lot of advanced functionality versus alternative applications. Sheetlink is made by another software firm called DiRoots. It can achieve similar outcomes to BIM Link, which less advanced features available. It is a free application, so is delivered on a different basis to its users. One could argue it is a bit of a rip-off of BIM Link, intended to destabilize DiRoots' competitors to some degree. Their ProSheets app is very similar to another application called Xrev (and better in my opinion), and they also have tools very similar to Ideate Explorer and Ideate Sticky. They've certainly given some great tools for free to markets who can't afford them, but probably aren't well liked by their developer peers as a result. Make of it what you will!

Your videos are super informative! I really appreciate your content! can you please suggest me what could be done if i wanted to extract data using assembly code or keynote parameters? how does that work? because getting data organised into either uniformat or masterformat seems to be a big deal..
@AussieBIMGuru
@AussieBIMGuru 6 ай бұрын
The key is actually assigning the codes to the elements first - cant extract what isnt populated! If youre unsure where to begin maybe try the autodesk interoperability tools which have an app for uniclass.

Thankyou I've tried using the add-in. It's cool and does the job perfectly. Also, Do you have any suggestions in place of Ideate Bim link which is available for free?

Hi, this is a great video, may I ask for a bit of advice, in my company we are working with Revit 2019, we are going to update but don't have a really strong reason to select the new version of Revit to use as standard.
@AussieBIMGuru
@AussieBIMGuru 2 жыл бұрын
A few reasons I guess would be the fact most consultants probably use revit 2020 and higher now, 2019 will be phased out of the 4 year apart limit when 2023 arrives and most addins/dynamo dont support old builds anymore. The better question to ask them is why to stay in 2019 I'd say. I'll probably move to 2022 quite soon for my own content and templating.

Hi. Thank you for the video Gavin. Question. When you give the wall a descripton, is there a way to change the thicknes text (walls name "280") in the description to match wall thicknes? Or is there something like family types for walls, so I could have many thicknes types under one wall? Sometimes (when working on older buildings) my projects get messy when there are too many walls in the project.
@AussieBIMGuru
@AussieBIMGuru 2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately as wall construction layers and description are both type properties any differences would require additional wall types.

Things like these should have been taught in school, or even in companies when starting out. Unfortunately, they just expect employees to know these things right away. On top of it, they expect everyone to be "PROFICIENT" in Dynamo! Holy smokes. Sitting on your desk all day while doing this is very unhealthy. I gave up on revit.
@AussieBIMGuru
@AussieBIMGuru 2 жыл бұрын
I agree universities should incorporate more of this into the curriculum, although school is too early given this is quite a niche. The world can only guide us so much before we must make our own decisions and take initiative. The future of the industry is becoming more tech dependent, hard to ignore it for me at least.
