ARRMA Typhon 3S vs Typhon 6S Comparison

After my unboxing of the Typhon 3S BLX, there were a lot of comments about why ARRMA released this car. I decided to put them side by side and talk about the differences between them and discuss why I think this new Typhon is great addition to the ARRMA's expanding fleet. There was also a lot speculation about what would happen to the 6S version as some people seemed to thing that this new 3S version would eventually replace it. Although I can't speak for ARRMA themselves, I can say that the new 3S Typhon is definitely welcomed by the majority and a welcomed addition to my fleet.

I prefer 3s. I sold my 6s Kraton and 6s Limitless. I got tired of charging 2 batteries each time, and replacing tires so often, and the heavy chassis was a dog on turns. The 3s Typhon weighs 44oz (1.3kg) less than the Typhon 6s. The extra weight of the 6s makes it handle worse on turns, the extra power of the 6s is kinda wasted on just having to move a larger chassis. 3s is also easier to work on, cheaper and more easier to find parts, and you can use an extra battery for twice the run time, instead of using two batteries on a 6s for 1 run.

I’m torn between which one to get but your comment sums up my thoughts as well. I have the 3s Vorteks and I love that thing. With that said, “only” being 3s, the Vorteks will still shred tires and pop wheelies all day long. 6s on either platform seems overkill. The only reason I want the typhon 6s is for the cool factor. It is definitely more of a machine but that doesn’t translate to better performance for my personal use. Speaking on the typhon in general, do you find that the platform stays relatively clean after running in dirt? My Vorteks gets filthy inside, whereas my brothers Losi Lasernut stays 95% clean after runs which makes me quite jealous.

​@kez850 I got the 6s. Even then the op's comment is flawed. If 6s is too much, just use 3s or 4s batteries or switch to a lower power state when running 6s. It's a tough beast, and the weight keeps it from breaking for when you bash. Get the 6s. You'll regret it cause you'll upgrade the 3s anyway 😂

Being an owner of a 6s v2 Typhon i can definitely see some benefits of a lighter chassis. All my extra weight is noticeable on a track and landings are that much harder. Its heavy compared to other models out and makes competing more of a challenge. 3s typhon might perform better in some instances as for speed challenges and distance jumps " i bet it floats better"!!! On a track with only 2 diffs could be a big drawback as well. As for durability im never a fan of plastic parts because they tend to be more prone to breaking. Time will tell. I like what arrma did and i understand they didnt want to design another chassis and just share the sentons but this 100% should've been a true 1/10 buggy. A huge plus for me is the 2s and 3s capable. This is alot more affordable to run and its easier to buy batteries. I can buy 4ct 2s batteries for the price of 1ct 4s. You can drive the baby typhon for hours vs the other.

I just bought the 3s but have to wait a few weeks for delivery. By the time I get it, I’ll have a 20t pinion and some big bore aluminum shocks for it. Even those included, it’s much less than the 6s and will still be able to go well over 50 mph easy. At the $300 price point, the Typhon 3s may be the best deal for a fast off-road RC out there right now. Nice comparison. 👍🏻

And just a tip for all u blx3s 4x4 owners.....dremel the holes out a little on the motor mount to free up the stress on the gear mesh. That’s why it’s so noisy!!!! ITS NOT BECAUSE OF 32pitch gears!! It’s because the gear mesh is way to tight from factory. Free that up and watch your truck run super quiet, cooler temps, and a lot smoother

You should review the new 1/6 8S Losi Super Rock Rey Rock Racer. People have just been getting the first examples in the past two days and the first initial runs and unboxing vids have just gone up in about the last 24 hours. RCSparks has said he will not be doing a review so it would be a good opportunity for you. Due to bigger tires that are outside the body and the lower KV motor, it is more powerful and jumps better than its cousin: The Losi Super Baja Rey Trophy Truck. People are really excited about it. Length and width are about the same as a Traxxas X-MAXX but finally in an awesome Rock Racer form. It jumps, handles well, crawls rock, it does everything. Could be the Ultimate RC for all.

I got my hands on a Typhon 3s Tuesday it was my LHS demo model for a great price, I had my old stock Granite 3s bumper I put on it, It looks pretty tough! And it gives it more protection for the front end

I've got the same 6s typhon. Do you guys notice it seems to send more drive through the front wheels? From a standing stop it always seems to balloon the front tires?

I’ve got the 6S and it’s so damn powerful. Of the 12 cars I have all of which were well over 400 dollars US none will hold a candle to the typhon 6S. Granted most are 3S and 4S. I thought I had fast cars until I got that one.

@@mrtambourineman6107 no not at all. I’m running my 3S granite cheetah J3 Speed wltoys upgraded cars on 3S. Now a year later I have at least a dozen 6S cars. Just put the xr8 200 amp 6S 2250kv HW combo in my talion and it’s off the charts fast. This post was directly after I got my first 6S the Typhon. Which was my first experience with 6S power. Compared to the 3S cars I had run before that it was shocking.

just calculated the kinetic energy of 3s typhon and 6s typhon with the kinetic energy formulae. 3s: 0.5*2.6*22.352*22.352 = 649.5 j and 6s: 0.5*3.45*26.8224*26.8224 = 1241.0 j. Just thought id post this to show the 3s system fits with the weight and top speed and that 6s is using roughly double the power / has double the KE at top speed.

You can swap out the ESC, but you won't gain anything by doing that. Driveshafts and diff are totally and not compatible with either car, so you won't be able to do that.

I got both and you can't go wrong with either. You could upgrade the esc for the 3s to power 4S batteries, same concept with 6S.

By farrr I superbly recommend getting 3s it's good for starts like me at the hobby and it teaches jumps and skills needed🤌🏻 as I'll get a 6s tuned model next then get a Hobao and a Koyosho MP9e. It's like trading cards you get to build up your Rack for RCs and Skills!

I have a 3s and it is fast enough very powerful rc . It's definitely not for kids .. very fast off the line and top speed 53 miles an hour The only problem is the battery lasts 20 minutes each charge time you play.. that is why I have three batteries so I can play for 1 hour. 🦾🤩

I have the new granite 4x4 blx and running the V3 2050kv 4074 motor with stock esc on 3s with 26tooth pinion clocked in just under 60mph front wheels can’t hold them down at that speed. Yes it’s faster than the stock motor and stock pinion but the torque is unreal. Almost to the point of being useless for the little truck. But it sure is fun
