amongst all the tough 3 set RG 2014 matches from Maria, this one I'm the proudest of. Somehow she managed to win this when I think she has no right to ... applying just enough pressure to force errors out of Muguruza but not so much that she makes errors herself. I think trying to slow things down also helped. Muguruza was on fire there and somehow Maria came through.

Suprised at 2 ladies having the same situation when they won their GS. After glorious AO2008, Masha had shoulder injury that made her changed her style. Less flat ball, less agressive than the pass. And Muguruza won the FO2016, she also changed in play style. But I love how they played in the pass.

@@Fontsman well clearly Sabalenka hasn't mastered the hard hitting technique yet then. If hard hitters players like Sharapova, Mugu and the really bad at running Davenport can win GS with powers, then it's working too. Serena's GS was also mainly built around her powerful serve, FH and BH. Tactical is important too. Henin was an example but she tops it up with power. Raducanu also is actually a hard hitting players. Has purely tactical players like Radwanska won?? Nope. Last purely tactical players to win GS is Hingis.

@@AoDk673 It's about variation. We are now seeing the younger women players showing better allround techniques. Barty is another who has a well rounded game. It's easier to coach endless hitting. But the ability to come in and volley is making a welcomed resurgence.
