Yes, Austin is famous for forgetting words to songs. He just continues on until the words fall in place. You just have to love Austin.

I met Tim at John Wayne Airport years ago when he was with the Alley Cats. They were ahead of me at the ticket counter and we started talking and I mentioned I was an acapella singer as well. They were kind enough to let me sing a couple songs with them while they waited for their flight.

Thanks for sharing! Too funny. The guys have had years of practice just rolling with whatever happens. Tim, Tim, Tim...masterful, as always, with handling the audience. (And getting hotter the older he gets. Lovin' his jacket! Lucky Jenika. 😊 ) Thrilled to see Adam up front and visibly singing. And... the signature bandana is back! He spends so much time in the background doing his thing.

He forgot the opening lines for God Bless the USA one day (this year?). A song that was probably #2 in terms of how many times they had sung it. Someone posted it then, but I've lost the footage. Fortunately the audience was already signing, so he didn't get totally lost.

I have a challenge for Austin: On his 3 Ships solo album, Jon Anderson of Yes does O Holy Night, and he does something I've never heard anyone else EVER DO with one of the "O night divine" lines. I'd like Austin to start and finish "divine" higher than Jon does it. 😃 You can find a recording of that here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eqPHhpWcmpWFjKs

I am looking at this from a vocalist perspective who sang with an acapella chorus for 25 years. I would be exasperated by a member continuously flubbing song lyrics. Yes people mess up lyrics particularly in live performances with new material. I have watched the clip multiple times, from his tone, Tim was annoyed with Austin . Tim explained that he'd arranged the song and all Austin had to do was repeat what he had just sung. Austin, then tried to give an excuse and Tim responded " You shouldn't do that." and then went into teacher-mode before being interrupted. Too bad, I think it was about to get interesting.
@RefriedHomeFries11 ай бұрын
Yeah....we felt as if it were all in good fun. Tim has actually stood up for Austin before stating 'we all forget the words at times' and he definitely seemed exasperated that time...I was glad it wasn't me picking on Austin that time 😉 😂
@nancyholter564611 ай бұрын
Tim always 'sounds' exasperated when he scolds Austin for memory lapses - how much is for comedic affect and how much is real...only they know.

@@nancyholter5646 I still want to know what advice Tim was going to give before he was interrupted.
@patriciamcl5411 ай бұрын
Yes, we understood all that, having seen it for ourselves You really didn't need to explain it, and I hope you will forgive me when I say that I'm not sure why you did it in such a relentlessly negative way. Austin is NOT "continuously flubbing song lyrics". The guys' full repertoire is hundreds of arrangements and originals, 99.99% of which he sings without a hitch. The main problem lies in people wanting the same old stuff over and over, and many people with creative and active brains find that when you could perform on auto pilot it is fatal to engage the present consciousness. As a pianist I found that if I knew a piece well enough to play without thinking, it was fatal to consciously think about where the piece went next. Tim was NOT annoyed, and I can only suppose that you have not seen much of the relationship between him and Austin. If you have not previously heard how Tim speaks during shows, I think you are wrong about his his tone. I can assure you that Tim would never attempt to act the teacher (in public too!) to someone he has been working with and close friends with for 10 years, and for whose abilities he has the highest respect. It would be crass in the extreme, particularly since Tim may be front man but the band has no leader. Again, you appear not to know that Tim always makes fun of Austin on occasions like these, to amuse themselves and the audience, and this was part of a continuing conversation going back years. The "You shouldn't do that" was not,, as you seem to believe, some sort of reprimand but a reply to the way Austin talked about the "coming to" that I described above. He meant humorously "You shouldn't think." Perhaps you did not see that Rob both understood and agreed with Austin. I hope you continue to listen to Home Free but with a more open mind. Those of us who have followed the band for some time love each of the members and do not try to read hostility into a light-hearted exchange between them. We understand that what makes Austin very occasionally forget a word is the same force that makes him a highly gifted songwriter and arranger.
@patriciamcl5411 ай бұрын
It has always been for comedic effect, as far as I can see. The idea that he would presume to scold Austin in public is weird.@@nancyholter5646

I hate to burst everyone's bubbles but I don't think we should be laughing at Austin forgetting the lyrics to songs he's sung dozens of times, instead we should be concerned. .

It's Austin and he has a reputation for doing so. Also the guys have said that they have done it as well. It happens to lots of performers. It's funny when they make it funny. Austin is just fine 😉😊
@nancyholter564611 ай бұрын
My concern would be that he is overly tired from too many shows in too short a time, not that it is a symptom of something dreadful. ADHD and touring have got to play hell with a decent sleep schedule - not that touring offers such a thing.

@@nancyholter5646 that was my concern, too. I know Chance had some bad times on this tour, too.
@patriciamcl5411 ай бұрын
Far too much fuss. Austin had the same thing happen that a lot of musicians do, that when you could do it on autopilot, it's fatal to then think of what you're doing. Rob agreed with him. You are in fact more likely to forget words with something you've sung countless times. I've had it happen to me. It's also the reason why eg bus companies vary the drivers' routes, so that they are in the moment all through the journey. Austin is fine.
