I live in Seattle and we have ended nothing. There have been a lot of sh**tings lately. There was even a guy on the freeway randomly sh**ting people in cars for a while. If the victim of the sh**ting is a child, the mayor will come out and give a speech decrying _the plague of violence victimizing our communities that is (of course) caused by too many guns on the street, blah blah._ The city council is studying strategies to better coordinate the flow of information between agencies to reduce gun violence. And so on. Anything except, you know, arresting criminals and putting them in jail. For a while they were even going to close Juvenile Hall, and apparently put a total stop to the pretrial incarceration of minors, but that plan seems to be have been put on hold for now. The vast majority of juvenile offenders are still released the same day with very low or no bail. The city is still understaffed by 600 officers. About a year ago the mayor was caught on tape telling recruiters to avoid, quote, 'white males and individuals with a military bearing.' He received no penalty whatsoever, of course, as is usually the case. KZbin usually deletes my comment if I include that little anecdote, we'll see how it goes this time. The police will no longer come out to respond to many burglaries or robberies. You have to go to a website where your case can be reported and then ignored. Lots of residential and business burglaries and car thefts. Lots of Kias driving through the front gates of pot shops. Business as usual here in a Blue city.

The Castle Doctrine in Texas is a legal principle that allows residents to use force, including deadly force, to defend themselves, their family, and their property from an intruder or attacker. This doctrine is rooted in the idea that an individual’s home (or “castle”) is their sanctuary, and they have the right to protect it and themselves without the duty to retreat. Texas also extends this protection to other places, such as an individual’s vehicle or workplace, where they have a legal right to be. In Texas, the Castle Doctrine is codified under the Texas Penal Code, specifically in sections 9.31, 9.32, and 9.33. These sections outline the circumstances under which an individual can use force or deadly force in self-defense or defense of others, and provide legal protections for those who act within these parameters. Some of the key provisions include: The use of force is justifiable if the individual reasonably believes that it is immediately necessary to protect themselves or someone else from the unlawful use of force by an intruder. The use of deadly force is justifiable if the individual reasonably believes it is necessary to protect themselves or someone else from imminent death or serious bodily injury, or to prevent the commission of a violent crime such as aggravated kidnapping, murder, sexual assault, or robbery. There is no duty to retreat in Texas if the individual has a right to be in the location where the force is used and they are not engaged in criminal activity at the time. The Castle Doctrine does not apply if the individual using force is the initial aggressor, provoked the attack, or is engaged in criminal activity at the time.
